My laser printer refused to work last week.  All of the lights on the control panel would flash and it would not print no matter what I did.

Our trusted computer tech came out this morning.  Upon inspection, he found something interesting.  He pulled out one of the toner cartridges and said "are all of these like this?"  I said "Yes."  He explained to me that I hadn't pulled out the mylar to release the toner powder.  Each different color has a colored strip that I thought was the toner itself, that needs to be pulled on until it tears off.  He was surprised that it worked at all!  I've been running it like this since 2005!

So, he pulled all the mylar off and then took the printer out to the grass and yes, ladies and gentlemen, he used a leaf blower to clean it out.  He had no guarantees that this would fix the printer which it indeed did not.  Figures that either mylar had melted over a sensor or a sensor just went out on its own.

I can't even blame Sjogren's brain fog for this one, it's just plain stupidity!  So, we ordered a new HP combination copier / scanner / laser printer that will arrive on Wednesday.  Having the tech come over to install it.  Just a little less in the old pocketbook and long on embarrassment.  LOL!

LOL thanks so much for sharing this Lighthouse!

Oh my goodness - I've had days like this as well.  Glad you got a good 6-7 years use out of it :)  Sorry your pocketbook is lighter ;)

Your upbeat take is wonderful  ;D

Have a great day!

Oops. When we moved to our last house I thought the dishwasher was broken. I was yelling at it one night because I would push the 'wash' button and the green light would come on... but then it would go off and the dishwasher would never start.

Turns out that after you push the 'wash' button, you also need to push the 'start' button.  ::)

Since it seems to be confession time, I'll tell mine, too.  One day last week I did some yardwork and washed my car because the weather was so pleasant.  Then (since I'm prone to poison ivy breakouts,) I stripped off clothes and shoes and washed them.   When I removed the laundry from the washing machine later, something shiny caught my eye.  It was my car's keyless remote (starter) that I had left in my jeans pocket.

I waited almost 2 days to call the dealership because I was so embarrassed about it.  Just before calling them, I tested the starter, and it works!

This one is almost as bad as calling a repair man for an unplugged appliance! After just a few uses my new Playbook stopped turning on.....no problem I thought, battery must be down, so I plugged it in, left it overnight.

Next morning, no change, still wouldn't turn on. Since it was the weekend, I opted for leaving it plugged in one more night, just in case. Nothing happened.

Come Monday morning, I'm about to call the dealer, when I thought, nothing ventured nothing gained, and plugged it on once more to retry the reset I'd read about online...lights, camera ACTION before I ever got to the reset!

For those of you who have wall outlets controlled by the room's light switch, I'm here to tell you...they aren't reliable for recharging! Especially when you choose to leave things plugged in overnight, with the lights turned off! Good thing I can laugh at myself, it gives me so much in common with my family!

Linda, I have done that, too. Our couch has electric recliners and one day I couldn't get them to work. I panicked and kept pressing them, flipped them over to make sure they hadn't come unplugged... and then realize someone had turned the light switch controlling that outlet off. I also had to put a strip of electrical tape over a switch like that in my room because the alarm is plugged into that outlet and I was tired of having to reset it.
