Amazing morning

This morning at church I was annointed during our yearly Annointing of the sick. It was so emotional for me but I put aside my humility & signed up last week. After a long weekend of overdoing it I almost didn't make it but I felt like I needed to go.

So off I go to church & who is sitting behind me & stands next to me to be annointed?  My neighbor & her husband that lived across the street from the age of four until I graduated from high school (my father died my senior year & my mom sold our house). Her daughter & I were best buds & partners in crime even though she was 2 years older & went to Catholic school. Some of my fondest memories were with these people.

She grabbed my hands while we were at the front of church & says I'm trying to be strong & I don't want to cry. I looked at her and said, Suzy, do you know who I am? I told her & we both broke down in sobs, including her husband who was behind her. She is still as beautiful as ever & I recognized her immediately.

So after mass we talked a few minutes. She has breast cancer for the fourth time. I shared a snippet of my health woes. We exchanged phone numbers & I am sitting down to write her & her husband a letter. They still live in the same beautiful house on the cozy back road I grew up on. Makes me want to write a book about my childhood.

Thanks for sharing that beautiful story. I had tears while reading it. I thought that I had a great day in church today but yours was a very inspirational day. Now you and Suzy are rejoined in a very unique way.  Churches are great places to be on Sunday.

Thank you for your reply. I was not raised in a religious home but my parents filled me with love & knowledge about religion. They wanted me to choose my own way. I did after giving birth to my daughter.

My previous neighbors I saw today were very religious but knew I wasn't raised Catholic so seeing me in their home parish blew them away. Although I've been a part of this church for 9 years we go to different masses & with both of us being sick, our paths never crossed until today. She came to this mass because the priest was annointing the sick. It was so special. My husband & daughter were also brought to tears.

What a gift....

I sometimes think that our real purpose in existing is just to be kind to one another. We get caught up in all sorts of other things that don't really matter, but every now and the we get reminded to be humble and honest and then miracles happen. Sending love (and healing) to you both!
