 Just wanting to know if this happens to any of you or is this just another something going on with me.  I have not changed toothpaste/mouthwash, drank anything different.  My problem is a metal taste on my tongue right in the middle of it. I cant seem to brush it away or eat or drink  it away.  It is not there all day  but most of the day. This just started a few weeks ago.  Some days it is real bad, like tonight!!!  No matter what I am eating there is this funny taste, even when I have not been eating it just appears. metal is what i have come up with.  So do any of you have this problem?

Could your nose be dry and cracked and be bleeding down your throat?

That's as good of a guess as I could make.

When I was having weekly intravenous meds once a week at the hospital I would totally taste like I had a mouth full of pennies! I had to keep fresh gum in my mouth.

I had that for a bit ....  maybe a year ago. It was not a copper metal taste. But a (in my minds eye) silver tone metal taste...aluminum? Subtly, like when you accidentally bite on  Reynolds Wrap...but, not nearly that strong. I think I drank more water and it went away. And mention it to your Dr. during check-up.

I do not remember that anything/med had changed at that time. And it has not happened again. I think DH may have mentioned it in connection with inflammation/ and sometimes fever.  DH mixes baking soda in water for relief.

Although that may be your only symptom you may want to think about your diet at that time, and in general. I now have gastro issues. Jot that down in your health journal ...and avoid carbonated drinks...see info below.

You don't say what meds you take, but many have metal taste as a side-effect...lunesta, clindamycin, etc.  Even if you have taken the medicine for a while, sometimes those types of side-effects don't start until later.

I'm with Anita, some medications can cause your symptoms even years later....  Doxycycline used to cause that problem; shucks, back in the day, there were mornings when I would wake up after hard partying where my mouth tasted a lot better than when I took that med.

That was one of my first symptoms! It was awful and I had it for several months. It has left now only to be replaced by lack of taste!

thanks for your input ~ I don't take any meds. just vitamins lots of vitamins, I did added folic acid about 4 months ago.  I guess that could be it.  what I find strange is, I do not taste things anymore.  this is just like quietdynamics said~ like you would think foil would taste.  Very metal like.
I have on the tip of my tongue right now. the strangest feeling~

I have had this too - looking back, I now wonder whether it is an effect of the attack on salivary  glands, it is likely that as they are attacked their ability to produce the saliva changes before it goes, and the constituents of the saliva are different?  And that you can taste that? If you accidentally touch tongues with someone, you can taste a metallic "other person saliva" taste can't you? Which must be the taste of saliva with a content you are not used to? 

Of course the other time I had metallic taste in mouth was when I was first pregnant - possible?

If you google folic acid and metallic taste, you'll get several hits.  You say "just vitamins" like they are not a medicine of sort.  Vitamins have just as many side-effects, contraindications, reactions, etc  as 'medicines' do, so you can't discount them for sometimes causing problem...even simple annoying symptoms like taste changes.   I would start with the folic acid since you just recently added it.  Stop it for a while and see if your symptoms improve.

If you're not actually deficient in a vitamin and still take more (and get too much), you can alter how you body responds and end up with unwanted side-effects...where as if you were deficient in one (using folic acid acid as an example) and supplemented you might not get the same negative reaction.  People think that vitamins are non-toxic and never harmful...just not the case.  Just because they are not regulated does not mean they won't negatively effect your body or react with other meds or vitamins.

Let us know if stopping it helped the taste.  Good luck.

Zinc will also destroy your sense of taste. Remember: if you expect it to affect your health, it IS a "drug."

I've had that metallic taste with GERD, salivary glands acting up and when taking certain meds. (antibiotics especially) Not fun! (Oh and sometimes with oral thrush due to the antibiotics!)

A metallic taste can also be related to partial seizures.

I do know that vitamins can mess with you when taking them like I do.  I have always had bad reactions to most medicines , I just try so hard not to take anything.  My Rhuemy has me on what I think is a lot of Vitamins, but I have not felt this good in years.

Last year I found out I have a dairy allergy and she put me on the Zyflamend.  those two things made all the difference. 
I am taking Centrum silver multivitamin ,Fish oil, Calcium, Zyflamend, Vit. C, and I just added in July Folic Acid and L. Glutathione.  I do use Restatis. 

I have not had the metal taste in the last 2 days. 

I guess what really concerned me was most of the time I just dont taste anything so to taste Metal of all things was just weird. thanks for all your responses.
