Hi all... it's been awhile since I have been on here, but I haven't forgotten you all.  :-)  I have something I hope you all can help me with .... I went to the GP this morning for a simple bloodwork followup.  He noted my parathyroid hormone is elevated and is of course doing more testing.  Along with that, I mentioned a swelling on my neck that I noticed about 3 weeks ago.    The mass is painless and I only found it while applying lotion to my neck and then in the shower, I was able to feel it very well.

After careful examination, he said it is a "4cm x6cm palpable mass with diffuse edges in the sternocleidomastoid muscle."  He said he didn't feel any lymph node swelling, but was very concerned about the mass.  He sent me for followup bloodwork today, and I go for an MRI w/wo contrast on Tuesday with a followup appointment with him on September 10th.

I did a search of the forums, but could not find anything about this.. but I am a little concerned, so I could have missed it.

Have any of you had this or know anything about it?   His urgency has me a little (OK... a lot concerned)... but I can find very little about masses in the sternocleidomastoid that is not scary to read about.  I'm trying to remain calm.

Thanks so much!

I know nothing about this condition, but just wanted you to know that I will be thinking about you, and interested to hear how you get on next week. It's going to seem a long time for you 'til then, but it sounds like your doctor is on the case, rather than 'waiting to see'.

Thank you. I am glad he is on it and I'll be so glad when I get the results and can hopefully put this all behind me.

OK this is going to sound impossible, but, try not to worry yet.

later if it turns out to be something to worry about there will be lots of time for that.

Until then, dont make yourself crazy searching online.

And come here to vent when needed. Someone is always here to offer advice and a cyborg hug.

Thinking of you!  I hope it's nothing to worry about it.  Let us know what you find out.

I feel your worry/pain.  Im going through something similiar with my thyroid.  Not knowing and having to think about other things between appointments is nearly impossible.

Hang in there and let's TRY to hope for the best!

Rhonda

Thanks everyone.  I'll definitely post results here.
