My husband has had surgery and does not have a colon or large intestine.  He was getting the same from his ostomy.  That said ,this is what we were told when we spoke to his doc.  Most meds are meant to be absorbed in the gut.  Many meds are put in a filler which makes the pill form.  If you are seeing them in your stool, they may just be the filler that is not digesting and absorbing or it could be the entire medication.  There is not a good way to know.  We avoid any time released medications for him, as everything that he eats ends up in internal pouch in 2-3 hours. Any meds, vitamins, etc we can get in sublingual or liquid form we do.  Many things like motrin for one have a large carrier. He uses Children's Motrin in liquid form and adjust the dose by weight (which by the way is the best way to dose medications as one size really does not fit all).  We use chewables such as aspirin, childrens vitamins, antacids for one being previcid we get the capsules and then poke the end off and pour the contents on his tongue and he swallows them with water being sure not to chew the contents.

Speak to your doctor and ask. You must be your own advocate.  It is not worth being too embarrassed to ask and end up flushing your medication down the drain and not getting the medication in your system.  This can be so important and in some cases such as my husbands, life threatening as he is on many meds for cardiac, diabetes-we switched to shots because he was not absorbing them-and blood thinners for stents.  Good luck!

A lot of the cheap calcium pills never dissolve. You might need to upgrade if that is is. Also, I agree. Talk to your doctor. If those are prescription pills, that is a lot of money not going into your system.

You might even consider calling a pharmacist about which meds or over the counter meds would cause that too.  Some of the bigger pharmacies have online chat if you feel more comfy going that route.  Just a thought.  :)

AI diseases seem to affect our digestion. It is supposed to take 56 hours for things to go through our digestive system when it is functioning normally. With my AI disease I am all over the map from an hour or two up to a week. After many trips to the doctor, I had to learn to live with it. Good luck.
