Please pray for my mom.  She has just suffered her third compression fracture in her spine confirmed by an X-ray of her back.  She will see the doctor on Monday to test her kidney function to see if it is high enough so she can take an osteoporosis medication.

This is the worst pain I have ever seen in my entire life.  Osteoporosis is evil!

Oh Lighthouse, I am so sorry. It is a terrible thing and I hope she is getting some relief with meds? You and your mom are in my prayers! Please keep us up to date on how she is doing!

Gayle and Cricket,

She is getting some relief from pain medication.  She has on two pain patches and a morphine pill prescription.  From what I have read, now that she has had three fractures, she's 27 times more likely to have more.  What we are most concerned about is her breaking a hip.

I am praying for you, your Mom, and your Dad.  My poor Dad suffered with the same thing.  It is evil.

Now that mom's kidney function is a little bit better, she got an injection of Prolia last Friday.  It is an injection given every six months.  As my dad explained to her, she didn't have a choice, because the last thing she wants is a broken hip.  So, hopefully she will show some improvement.  Prolia is not supposed to affect the kidneys, that why it was chosen over the other medications.

Moving on, dad thinks he may have fractured another vertebrae in his back.  This would be number 3.  I hope he is wrong.  He hit balls yesterday and now this.  I've done some research about osteoporosis and found that golf is contraindicated because of all the twisting and torking of the spine.  But I've learned to keep my mouth shut and let them live their lives. 

It will be interesting, if no one can drive, we are going to be up the proverbial creek!  Mom thinks she is going to drive.  It was my laugh for the day.  She has three compression fractures (one being new) is on oxygen, morphine and pain patches and she thinks she going to drive!  LOL!
