Swollen back and neck

I have had back and neck pain forever. But lately it has become worse. Doctor put me on baclofen to see if that helps. Well, after three weeks I can say it is not. The pain is awful.Much worse than ever. And now I have swelling.. Never had that before. Swelling on my lower back, swelling all along the left side of my spine. Swelling in my neck. Mostly on the right side and goes up into the lower part of my occipital ... Which is causing a headache so bad, I throw up. I do have an appt tomorrw with rheumy. They were triple booked today.. The pain and swelling was already bad for a week. Then I started to babysit my 10 month old graddaughter cause my daughter finally got a job. Three days of watching her for 9 hours a day and I was in extreme agony..I wonder what is causing the swelling. Does anyone ese have this?
Then I feel so bad that my daughter is in a pickle with finding a sitter. I am really the only person she trusts and doesnt work. This all sucks.. Sorry for the bad language.. But it does. Pain, and not being able to do the things I want to. And worse , not being able to help others who need it just stinks..  I hope they can find something to help mefeel better tomorrow. Thank you for listening to me whine...

Luna, I am so sorry. It sounds heartbreaking and exasperating.

I hope the doc helps you out tomorrow. Can you call them and ask them if you can add some aleve to your regimine for today - until you can go see the doc tomorrow?

Maybe sense you can sit for your daughter, you could call some folks/establishments and help find an alternate? I know some churches have day camps going on right now for small student with the summer off.

I cant take aleve because Im on stronger Nsaids already. As for my granddaughter, she is only 10 months old. My daughters step sister is helping out today. She really needs me tomorrow after my doctor appt.. I am hoping I will be able to..

Body reflexology, and meditation may help with the pain. I chiropractor may be a good option. It sounds like you are low on spoons and need to rest.

Luna, is this a new complaint, if so you need to see someone pretty quickly.
  Do you have Arthritis ?, it does seem to me that it could be that.  I have Osteo Arthritis of the spine and it can be ever so painful,  I also feel my ribcage is twice its normal size and having a bra on almost chokes me at times.
      Anti Inflammatries is the way to go.    Hope it has eased by now, Dolly X

Thank you Joe.  Dolly, the extreme pain and swelling is new. Always had neck and lower back pain. Hips started hurting a few months ago. The Rheumy put me on Baclofen a few weeks back. I already take Dyflusinal and Plaquinel.The swelling started a week or so ago. The incredible pain started Tuesday. Im seeing my Rheumy tomorrow. The rheumy said last time I saw her that I have arthritis in my spine. Ill let you know what she says..

Saw my Rheumy today. She did xrays of my neck and back. She wants to see if the AI is fusing my neck.  She upped my dose of beclafen and prescribed tramadol. Then told me she is sending me to a neurologist. Another doctor, Ugh. I didnt get my tramadol yet cause the pharmacy informed me it was not approved by my insurance cause its the time released one.., She said it is very expensive.  They sent something in to my doctor to get it approved. Or get me something that is covered. So, I wont be using that till monday if they get it approved. Im doing a little better today anyway. Still neck and back pain, but no headache. Yay..Why is it always another doctor, lets try this or that?? I know, I know why. Its just so darn frustrating and depressing..

I recently had neck/shoulder pain and swelling.  I took a  dose down pack of medrol.  I helped some, but didn't completely take away all the discomfort.  I can at least turn my head a little now.  I hope you they can find something that will help you soon.  When is your appointment with the neurologist?  hang in there!!  I wish you well.

Thank you Reanne, I will call to make my appointment monday.. Do you know what is causing your neck and shoulder pain and swelling?  I had another flare of it again today.. Took some Tramadol I had left over from past back pain and been doubling my baclofen and then took the phenegin for vertigo and nausea.. It did help.. I cant do anything cause im woozy,, but it helped.. Dear Reanne I hope you get some relief also.. That is awful to deal with.

I think I was having a major flare.  I fell Memorial Day and haven't been the same since.  I try to rest and relax when I can.  Heat/cold doesn't seem to help.  If I am not better next week, I will follow up with my PCP.  I hope something helps you soon.
