Trigger finger

I know I have posted about this before; however, this is the third time I have had this.  My middle finger hurts so badly.  I think I need another shot.  It just keep popping out.  Has anyone else had this?  Does it mean carpal tunnel surgery???

Are you hunching your shoulders forward?

It can cause carpel tunnel. Stretching the shoulders open will release the pinched nerve.

I have severe pain in my right middle finger a lot of times. And I have carpal tunnel.. So that could be it.. I ddint know tht Joe. Thanks for the info..

Carpal tunnel is also activated by working on the computer. The pressure on the inside of the wrist where the nerves go through a sheath of tissue is where lots of the damage occurs.

I ended up having surgery. The other thing I am wondering is if you are having a "trigger finger" which is also caused by the tendons and surgery can be done for this also. Find out from the doctor what you have and why he is treating it with a cortisone shot. Normally we are not to have more than 3 ( I think this is right) cortisone shots a year.

Generally the carpal tuneel in the wrist is caused by the sheath tightening up and placing pressure on the hand causing numbness and pain. I had pain in my hand and up into my shoulder and when I was in bed at night it would get just terrible. I have never heard of a finger dislocating with carpal tunnel, but there is always a first time for everything.

My first symptoms with carpal tunnel was when I could not reach into my purse when I was driving and find my inhalers. My fingers had lost some feeling--I also had a terrible time getting change out of my billfold or taking paper money out of my billfold. Good luck with this. Irish

My trigger finger is due to over use.   Been pulling music equip. around for many years.
I've been getting a cortizone shot in my palm every eight months or so for five years.

The shots of cortizone worked great for me..the shot stings of course and after a day or so your hand is a good as new and would last me about six months.

Thanks for all the advice.  I called my rheumy this morning and she's going to work me in this afternoon for a shot.  Who would ever have thought I would be glad to get a shot in my hand!!!

Hmmm,

My trigger finger was actually my left thumb.

It didn't hurt, but it 'stuck' in the bent position at the first joint.

First the doctor tried a cortisone shot and it didn't work.

Then, since I'd already been diagnosed with carpal tunnel in my left hand, he did the trigger release surgery and the carpal tunnel correction surgery on my left hand at the same time.

It was no big deal, no post surgery therapy.

I had never been bothered so I noticed by the carpal tunnel.  And the trigger finger thumb is fine now.

My sister had the surgery on her trigger finger, too.  The tendon was so enlarged, it wouldn't go through the sheath and that's why it kept getting stuck.  He sliced a strip off the side (a pretty big strip for such a small finger) and now it works fine.

I had a male boss whose wife had 2 trigger fingers and had surgery on both of them at the same time---both hands. She would come in and visit us as she usually worked some also. Her husband had to hook her bra and almost get her dressed plus did a lot of the housework and cooking when she was laid up the first couple of weeks.

After the thumbs were less sore she could do a little more, but the darn bra was still the biggest problem. She was lucky he helped her. Could be a long month or so if you couldn's get your bra on. lol Irish
