I am so tired at my job with all the politics from the executive staff.  It is more stressful than the work.  I would love to move to NC.  I have to think about my health insurance though.  I have very good health insurance and I am vested but I cant get it until I am 62, now I am 49.  I can get it at 55 but I will be penalized so bad as far as my income.  Of course, I would get it all if I go out on disability retirement.  However, I am not ready for that although its getting very hard with my memory and all.  I just want to be able to at least work part time somewhere.  My mom and one of my sisters is in NC.  Im in CT, hadnt had a raise since 2008 because of the economy of the state and some benefits was already taken away from me because of politics and they will be taking more money from me because of contractual settlements from union workers which I am not.  Anyway (venting) if someone knows of any good companies with good benefits in NC, I would love to take a look and weigh my options.  Or, maybe you just have some good advice for me.

HI!
NC is a beautiful state and Asheville is a great city. Not sure what you actually do so can't recommend any company specifically. Where is your family? Look in their area so you would have support. Changing jobs is so hard in this economy but it is happening. Look online at the jobs available and maybe start preparing a resume or CV. Can't hurt to just look around. I am sorry your present place is so difficult! I understand! Sending hugs and prayers!

Well you could call the chamber of commerce for the communities you want to live in there and get a list of corporations so you can start researching the companies. Make sure you look at their recruiting pages and see if anything fits for you.

If you really want to do some due diligence, you can cross that list with the Forbes top companies list for work/life balance and growth.

Usually larger companies have the best benefits

Personally, I want a part time job, paying twice (or at least) what I make now, better benefits, and lets me pick my own hours!  ;D

Good luck to you!

It is fairly easy these days to "look" for work in a distant place, thanks to computers and all the fancy electronic things we have.  Looking for a job and putting feelers are a big difference from finding work, don't we all know.  I think the advice to sent out some CV's are excellent.  Make contact with employment agencies in that city.  Actually, you can probably log on to a temporary employment site in whatever city/area you are looking at.

Also look at the employment listings of the largest employers or the employers closest to what you do. You never know what will happen.  Sometimes I think places like to hire people from different areas, because then there is no company politics involved with the new person's background.  It doesn't change everything.  But sometimes I think they like to look elsewhere.  Good luck to you.  Remember looking isn't the same as taking a job and you have to be offered a job before you can take it.  Best of luck, Lucy
