Hello everyone!

Every now and then I have one of those days where something happens to me and I just want to turn my face to the heavens and say to God, "Really? Are you kidding me?" Just when I get good news something comes along to spoil it. Last week I finally got approval for short-term disability with my company after having already been out since March 17. Tuesday I went outside to shut my sprinkler off and walked on my wet porch with bare feet. As I was going back in the house I told myself to be very careful because my feet were wet. Just as I got one foot inside the door and was bringing the second one in, my right foot slipped out from under me and I went crashing down, landing very hard right on my tailbone. My left foot slid under the door and was wedged in there pretty good. When I hit the floor I felt pain shoot up my spine and it felt like all my vertebrae just banged together. Needless to say I was sore but by the time I got up yesterday I could harldy sit. I've been to the chiropracter twice already but it is still so sore it even hurts to walk. I asked the chiro if she thought I broke my tailbone and she said I could have but there isn't much doctors can do for it but give it time to heal.

It couldn't have come at a worse time. Tomorrow I have an appointment with a neuropsychiatrist for intensive testing related to my memory loss and other cognitive problems. The test is 5 hours long. How the heck am I going to be able to sit for 5 hours? I guess I'll have to take a pillow with  me.

Sunday my daughter (she's 14) is leaving for a trip to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for 12 days. Not only do I need to pack and get her stuff ready but I had big plans of using the time she will be gone to clean out closets and declutter my house (between naps of course!). Guess I'll be reading and being lazy instead.

Has anyone ever broke their butt, so to speak? I seem to have a lot of accidents anymore. I can't blame this one on weak legs though. It was my own fault for not putting my shoes on.

Ouch KarenR...!!!

Maybe the are is bruised? Some bruises don't show.

You can try one of those inflatable kiddie round tubes for children  in pools. You could even use that in the car if it works and since it has the hole there would be not pressure on your tail bone. Similar to the donuts folks in wheelchairs use to keep pressure off that area.

What a great trip for your daughter, is that with school? I was fortunate to do a similar trip at the same age on scholarship.

You sound like me.  ;)  Just as soon as I use to get off on the right foot, something would happen, and I would fall or something. It never failed.

When I walk these days, I am mostly careful. Mostly meaning when I don't go and get spontaneous, and do something silly forgetting all that my body has going on.  ::)

Our days are never dull are they?

Hope you get better real soon.

Ow-ow-ow-ow-OOOW!!!!  :o

You need one of those "donut" pillows that looks like a toilet seat....seriously. It takes all the pressure off your tailbone. You will be MUCH more comfy! A good pharmacy or maybe a home-healthcare store should have one. Take it EVERYWHERE.

I have not broken mine, but have bruised it badly. And when I was a kid, I pushed my mom off the back of a sled onto an icy hill (I was about 7 years old and thought it would be funny if she slid off the back of the sled - it never occurred to me she'd get hurt!!! Stupid kid.... :-\) - anyway, it broke her tailbone  :-[. She was on painkillers and that little pillow thing for about 2 months. But it DID heal....

I know what you mean about stuff all happening at once....about 2 months ago I was in the same kind of boat.

But this, too, shall pass....

Best of luck, and take it easy!!!! Oh, and if you are on prednisone at all, talk to your doc - I read somewhere it interferes with bone healing.

I have never broken my tail bone, but a good friend of mine did.  It was several months before it healed.  Not what you want to her, I am sure.  Like others suggested, I would definitely get one of those special cushions.

Hope you feel better soon and glad your short term disability was approved.
