Does the summer heat affect Sjogrens?

Lately my eyes have gotten to the point that I now have given up my contacts (no matter how hard it was for them to come out as they would stick like super glue). But although I wasn't outside that much today-my lips are dry as dirt, my mouth is dry no matter what I do (gotta start that Salagen) and my eyes feel dry as a desert. Is it the 90 degree weather or just a Sjogrens flare?  I was in and out side but not out for more than 20 mins at a time so...

I don't know where you live, but here it's more humid outside and I find that helps - not hugely, but a little. When the heat comes on in the winter is when I get dryer.

It's hard to say what is bothering you.  Humid air usually helps but a wind can eliminate any good the humidity does.  I do not think it is a flair because your lips and eyes are dry.  It could be, of course, but those two things are the hallmark of Sjogrens and tend to be with us whether in a flair or not.  You may want to notice during this warm weather if you can see a pattern and if so, maybe there is more you can do.  Lucy

If the temp is 90 are you in and out of air conditioning? I find that to be bothersome. Pick up some eye drops/ artificial tears to help. With the pollen in the air I don't have enough natural lubricant to wash it away and it is a definite irritant. I rinse my eyes with cold water and do not even bother to pat dry.

Heat and Humidity leave me absolutely fatigued and nauseous.  And I get heat and/or sun headaches. So I wear a hat, sunglasses and stay in shaded areas, and mostly avoid doing errands between 11am and 3pm.

The air conditioning is what bothers me in the summer, especially in the car. Try to stay away from vents and wear glasses to help keep the air from blowing on your eyes.

I live in AZ with 5% humidity, if we're lucky!!!  The summer is definitely worse for me.  Our winters are better with some rain and more humidity without the heat so I do very well in our winters.  I also tan or burn much easier in the summer so this year I'm staying inside a lot!!  I use a humidifier all year round and beef up my tears and water and moisturizer in the summer.

while i am no expert on the matter, much like quietdynamics, i get very fatiqued and nauseous when exposed to heat (not necessarily sun, just heat).  i also get bad heat headaches.  so i try to avoid the heat.  we go to the Caribbean once a year and i stay in my room during the strong heat times of the day!  :)

i also dislike air conditioner because i am very sensitive to cold and the air blowing into my eyes.  i can't win!
