Hmmm...that interesting. I used to get Botox for deep wrinkled between the eyes, but my rheummy suggested that I give it up. He said there was no proof that Botox was bad for those with autoimmune problems, but (in his words), "Why take the chance?" So, I've resigned to looking grumpy all the time. :(

I wear a bite plate/splint (at bedtime)...whatever he called it.

i don't grind..just clench...even at times when i am just reading a book, watch TV..but mostly while asleep.

I don't like to wear my bite plate b/c my lips don't shut completely and makes my mouth more dry at night. I have broken a back molar off doing this clenching.

The advice your rhuemy gave you is probably good advice.

I had never had issues with grinding or clenching UNTIL I noted swelling  in my parotid  and salivary glands.

I think all the extra fluid and swelling in the area causes a lot of tension that made me start to grind my teeth .

I also got a custom mouth guard to wear at night- costly but cheaper than repairing teeth!

Not sure about the botox- if I started there I would have to have a major overhaul of everything! LOL
