Losing my dear PCP

Suppose this is just a personal slight vent, but my dear doctor is leaving/ moving to another region.  Ugh!

The wonderful guy I found accidentally 18 months ago who diagnosed my Sjogren's, put me on Plaquenil, learned more about my condition and was sweet and kind.  And would listen to my concerns.  (:

I found out at a followup appt. at the office yesterday.  Funny thing is they told me his speciality is actually anesthesiology, so a nurse thought he was moving to pursue that career further.  Hmmmmm.

Now I must decide to see one of two internists in this office or see the nurse practitioner there.  I saw the NP yesterday and she seemed very good, AND she told me she has one other Sjogren's patient.  (this is good)  :)
Of course, I could find another practice, too.  But all the staff in this one is good, too, so guess I'll give it all some thought.  I just hate needing to decide!

If anyone needs a good PCP (if that's what he'll be doing) in Chattanooga, TN I give him a great recommendation.

Ohhh boy.....I can understand how you would feel after finding someone you trust and really like...only to hear that he will be leaving your area. But as you said, you do like the others in the office and the NP has some background with sjogrens so those are all pluses.

Good luck with your decision Meld....hope it works out for you...I'm sure it will!

Thank you, Lynn.  I'm sure it will be fine, but I DO hate losing this guy.

My sis-in-law really likes him, too. (the woman who hates and complains about every other doc she's ever seen.)  When she heard he was leaving, she asked me when we were leaving to move to Chattanooga!?

Who knows?  Maybe this NP will be even better than him since she has experience with Sjogren's.  8)

Melinda - that would be disappointing to hear the news of losing a PCP you like and who understands your journey with Sjogren's.

It is a positive note that the NP does have another patient with Sjogren's.  This is my personal opinion, for what it's worth  ;), but, if you seemed to like the NP you saw yesterday - stay with her unless (or until) you would feel she's not helping you on your Sjogren's journey.  Then, look for another doctor.

One good thing, that doctors office will have all your files from the last 18 months - so your medical history stays there and the NP or two internists can look back on your treatment plans, labs, etc. from the doctor that is leaving.

Good Luck.

Melinda, That is really a bummer. We see so many doctors and it takes a long time to find a "keeper". Sure hope that you can replace him. Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing until the dust settles. Good luck. Irish ;D

Meld256

Yep, it's a bummer.  He's a real "keeper"-if he'd only stay in one place!  He just moved to this office about 6 months ago.

I may just stick with this office a while and see how it goes.  No real reason to "jump ship" right now.  The more I think about it, it is nice the NP seems to know about Sjogren's (very BIG plus) and the staff is great.  (another plus!)

And...I don't need to move my records again. So, you have a good point, Bucky, and Irish, sometimes it is better to not make a change right away.
Thanks, my friends.  ;)
