I just didn't have enough going on these days.  I have been struggling with significantly progressed cardiac problems and pre-diabetes symptoms on top of it.  So yesterday I wasn't paying careful attention to watching my feet (I have very poor proprioception) when going down the steps...of course I fell.  It was a very hard fall...right onto the concrete garage floor.

I'm posting to help me remember this...not that I think my body will be forgetting anytime soon.  I know better...from previous falls, to not allow myself to be rushed or careless on the stairs/steps.  So I'm a bit disappointed in myself.  Lesson learned!!!

Oh my, I hurt.  Not even sure WHAT part hurts worse.  The bruises are scattered from shoulders to feet.  I'm actually VERY lucky that I didn't break something with my significant osteoporosis.

So, it's open season on me...verbal thrashings and reminding me of my stupidity are welcome.  LOL

Anita, so sorry about your fall.  It does remind us to take care and not rush things and mostly be careful.  This post came on the heels of a picture I took of my face when I fell flat on the sidewalk downtown and broke my nose and blackened my eyes.  I found it on photobucket or something.  I had forgotten how badly I looked with two black eyes.

I hope you don't look as bad and, I looked worse than I felt.  Take care with steps and other bumpy roads.  Lucy

Ouch! Sorry, Anita - you are indeed lucky no bones were broken! I hope your pain subsides soon.

Oh, good grief!  If it's not one thing it's another --- that's so terrible! Have you had a nice long soak in a hot epsom salts bath yet?

I'm glad you could react with humor (as you so often do!) and I hope you'll be easy on yourself for the next few days.

Take care of my friend!

I'm so sorry, Anita. I have had poor balance all my life, and am a safety professional. One day, as I was thinking about what I need to do before a safety meeting(!), I sort of spaced out the bottom two steps in my basement. I cracked an ankle bone, and it took two years to completely heal. Almost always,  I used the handrail, but I was carrying something down. Sigh.

Don't feel badly about it!  But now, when I go up and down stairs, that is ALL I do mentally. Oh, and when you go up stairs, use your hands, too. I fall going  up more than going down.

I hope you heal quickly!
Hugs, Sharon

Oh my ..... Sounds like a Sjogrens Olympic score of 10. That was meant to make you smile.
The other day I went body surfing down the stairs....when I got to the bottom I thought.... Hmmm well done, graceful, but I am too old for this!!!
Of course for the next week when I felt where my left shoulder hit... I realized I wasn't so graceful after all... lol

An Epson Salt bath might help.

Thanks for the kind thoughts...and even the humor.  I would say that it was a perfect swan dive on concrete...certainly worthy of a "10".

I will have to try the Epsom salt bath...but too sore to go anywhere today (including the store to get some).  Probably something I should keep on hand.  How much do I add to the bath?

You are indeed lucky if you didn't break anything.... but  oh my, sounds like a really nasty fall. I hope you're feeling better soon.

I hope you are going to get checked out. If you decide to take the salt bath do not make the water too warm....we do not want you to get weak , dizzy and go boom on your bum again!!! Really, if someone can be at home with you it would be a safer way to go.

Another old fashioned remedy I used on my children when they fell was to apply witch hazel...it took swelling down and no bruise. My son would bring the neighborhood children home to me when they fell of their bikes. They would figid so much I would give them water and tell them to sip-it-very-slowly....no value, but, it made them keep still, so I could clean banged up knees and elbows... I miss being me... :(

The Epson Salt is very inexpensive, and is often used in sports medicine.

"Epsom salt is made from magnesium sulfate, a naturally occurring mineral that is often used to soak swollen, injured muscles. You can purchase Epsom salt over the counter at any drugstore or grocery store. If you have a muscular injury that is causing pain and swelling, talk to your doctor about whether you should try soaking the injury in a solution of Epsom salt and warm water.
How It Works

Soaking your swollen body parts in an Epsom salt solution combats inflammation because the magnesium in the salts reduce swelling. Magnesium is an essential mineral that can be taken internally or applied topically to lessen inflammation and swelling, reports Health Quest. Inflammation typically causes a depletion of magnesium, so as your body absorbs magnesium from Epsom salts, the magnesium works to combat the inflammation. Taking an Epsom salt bath is one of the most effective ways of getting magnesium into your body, according to the Epsom Salt Council.

Uses
You can use a warm Epsom salt water solution to treat injuries such as sprains and strains as well as any sore muscles.
Usage
To soak your entire body in an Epsom salt solution, fill your bathtub with warm water and add 2 cups of Epsom salt. Stir to dissolve, then soak in the tub as you would normally. You can also use Epsom salt to make a warm compress to put on an injury. Just dissolve 2 cups of Epsom salt in a gallon of warm water, then use the solution to moisten a towel. Wrap the warm, wet towel around your injured body part.

Thanks quietdynamics for the great info.

I will soak this weekend when my husband is home.  I really think I'm just banged up and have strained several muscles, so didn't plan on running off to the doctor.  If I don't start feeling better after this weekend, then i'll rethink a trip to the doctor.  The only 'swollen' areas are the palm of my hand and elbow.  Otherwise, I'm mostly just bruised and strained.

Thanks again

Anita, I buy my epsom salts at the local Walgreens (can I say that???) and they carry it in two different places. The plain stuff is over by the bandaids, but the lavendar scented is with the bath oils.

The plain epsom salts has about twice as much in the bag, but I still buy the lavendar scented because I like it.

It says to put two cups into a bathtub, but I usually put in about half that. And it smells so nice!

By the way, I hear you can use epsom salts to grow tomatoes that taste better! Just sprinkle a little into the hole as you're planting your seedling. I'd use the plain stuff for that.   8)

Hope you're feeling much better today.
