Does anyone know how to get even a cheap life insurance policy when we have all these medical conditions. When I was working, I had them through my employer, but when I retired they no longer applied.

Susan, If you find one let me know, please. I have looked over the years and there just arne't any. I wish I had been smart and just put away the money every month(money I would have paid for a life insurance premium) and by now I would have had enough money to pay for my funeral.lol

I have been literally uninsurable since before I was 40 years old. That was long before I was diagnosed with all this autoimmune stuff. Good thing money really isn't important. So they say. I think it is the health that is important so then some of the other things don't cost so much money. Just my ranting again. Irish

Well, I figured as much, just thought someone out there knew something I didn't.

Basically term life insurance is cheaper. But if you miss a payment or stop, the price starts back over again and could be higher. When you pass your heirs only get the amt the policy says.

Whole life insurace (which is usually more expensive) after so much time, builds an "extra fund" so to speak. After the policy is paid for, a fee is deducted each month for their work and the rest goes into a savings type fund. So when you pass your heirs get the policy amt plus any residuals.
Hope this helps!

I got an Allstate Life Insurance Term Plan for $25,000 about six years ago, then missed a few payments when I moved and lost the contact information (!). I've paid the full amount to bring it current, seen their person who checks my health statement by weighing me and taking my blood pressure. BP is much better than six years ago. Weight is not. I think I *did* mention Sjogrens, didn't mention the possibility of Dermatomyositis (which is good, since I am not diagnosed with that). I might not have mentioned SjS, thinking that my rheumy still isn't sure, and the results of the diagnostic study for the multi-center research program are not in yet.

Anyway, before age 70 or so, you should try getting a term-life policy with a reputable insurance company. I paid $30 /month with Allstate, for $25,000 term, about age 64 or 65.

Go for it,

The problem with any of the life insurance policies is that they have special conditions that they can't write insurance on.

Autoimmune disease is one of the conditions. If you ever get the Globe or AARP insurance in the mail that says is for all without a physical, just check the 3 questions that you would have to answer. None of us would ever pass that.

When we have these chronic diseases there might be some insurance out there, but they probably charge through the roof. Irish

I don't have anything against life insurance.  I know I need health insurance way more than life insurance.  I have cemetary plots already.  Also enough $ in the bank to pay for simple funerals.  If I had to pay all along for my illnesses, I would be put in a pauper's grave and probably a very general grave for lots of people.

People are going much simpler for funerals and memorials these days.  Sometimes just a graveside service.  I lost a sister and brother in 2009 within 3 months of each other.  My sister had about 3 or 4 wakes over a 3 day period and a full funeral on another day.  Geez, I was about wiped out from all the goings on.  We also were 6 hours away and had to be in a motel all this time.  In contrast, my brother was cremated with no service and his son has his ashes and I'm sure they discussed what he wanted done with the cremains.  My funeral will likely be somewhere in the middle with a wake before the funeral and many thousands of dollars less than my sisters.  Lucy

Use keyword searches for "no medical life insurance", Many sites will come up offering free quotes.

I don't know, you might check these..I love to scrounge through search engines and I looked at these over a few minutes of scrounging....currently I have a policy through my employer, but this may be a future headache if I wind up on LTD or SSD!!!.
