Recovering from surgery, doing well

Well, I had my hip replacement revision surgery 2 weeks ago today. I've been slowly recovering and am doing well.

I was in the hospital for 3 days then went over to a rehab place. So here's the crazy thing, I felt so awful, that I didn't want to be at the rehab place, I just wanted to go home. I felt too sick to be there and get poked and prodded and bugged every hour or two.

I know it was the Sjogrens flaring up just making me feel worse. 5 years ago, with practically the same surgery I went to the same rehab place for almost a week.

So I know it was crazy, but I left as soon as I could get out of there which was 2 days.  Yes, I had to take care of myself after that, and it was hard, but at least I got the rest I needed. Friends and family pitched in to help out, though I live alone, with my doxies.

Crazy me, thinking I felt too sick to be in a rehab place. I don't think they could understand what Sjogrens does to you, and how it takes everything out of you.

I'm doing well, have extra dry everything. Right now I don't know how much of what I feel is the surgery aftermath, and how much is Sjogrens - probably some of both. Thank goodness they let me go back on some anti-inflammatories along with my pain meds.

I'm just so glad to have that hump over!

Oh, Tami, I am so glad that you got this behind you. I applaud you for knowing what you needed to do. There is just no rest in hospitals or rehab centers. Somehow they have so many things they need to do to keep compliant with all their rules and regulations.

I am so glad that you had friends that could be there when you needed them. I bet you were very glad to be back home with the dogs so you didn't have to worry about them.

You are right about sjoggies needing a little different environment. We are sort of fragile people and sometimes we get so tired we can't lift our fingers. We just need the bery basics and the ability to stay warm and rest. So glad that you are feeling better. Hope this lasts your for the rest of your life. Enjoy the spring weather when it comes. You should be walking a lot better by then. Irish ;D

Tami, congrats on your "doing well" recovery--at least so far.  That is probably the worst part.  From you saying this was your second time through, I think that gives you special knowledge for the second time around.

I am fairly new out of a total knee replacement and am also doing well as I did from the surgery.  I had a partial knee replacement about 8 or 9 years ago so I knew the routine which helped me in this recovery.  It's amazing what they can do for us and just think a couple of decades ago, we might have been wheelchair bound and now we are up and going.  Continued recovery to you.  It isn't easy and lots of PT, isn't it?  Worth it, though.  Lucy

I am so glad to hear both of you doing good after your surgery. It really must be such a relief to have it behind you.

I hope you don't have any complications, but know there is the recovery time, and sjogren's to contend with.

Take Care, and take care of those fur babies too.

Sending many healing thoughts your way - I hope your recovery goes well and smoothly, and I completely understand wanting to be at home and not at the hospital or rehab facility. It's impossible to rest in those places!

I'm so glad your surgery went well and that you are recovering.  You are right there is no way to rest in the hospital or rehab center.  i know I have never been able to rest there.  I think I'm like you.  I would take care of myself and rest better on my only even if it was harder to do.  When you are in a SJS all you want and need to do is rest.  People seem to bother me more when I have a flare.  Take care of those doxies.  They are my favorite dog.  I have always wanted one but have never got to have one yet.
Primary SJS, dRTA, Osteroporis, OAB, stage 3 kidney disease, hypothyroid and high blood pressure.  Medicine I take are plaquenil, bicarb, prolia, synthroid, toprol and amolipine, citracal and vitamin D.  I use Arex and Azasite and Prolia.  I also have Reynaud's and osteoarthris of the toes

So glad to hear you are feeling better.  Glad to hear you stuck up for yourself when you needed to, to many people feel they have to do what the dr says.

Applause for getting yourself out of the hospital in two days. Knock wood, I've been able to do that the last three hospitalizations, when told originally that I would be in for longer.

Hope your recovery continues to go well, and when it's time, you'll burn up the track with your vigorous rehab.

Thanks everyone for your get well wishes and prayers. I can tell I'm healing, and luckily I have enough to to heal before going back to work.

I guess the metal on metal was causing enough inflammation that my artificial hip was being held together by "fibrous tissue" instead of bone. Now wonder it hurt so much for so many years.

I can now lay on one side instead of always on my back, and walk with crutches. Hurray!

Thanks y'all!
