Did your GI doc do a culture and sensitivity of the fluid in your stomach. Sometimes people can grow h.pylori and have infection. Infections can really cause gut aches big time. Yeast can also grow in the stomach and might not show up except in a culture.

Also, when you have a gut ache and can't eat normally it sure makes sense to lose weight. Are you eating yogut and some of the newer Greek yogurt that don't contain sugar.

I think I would rattle docs cage and get them motivated. If GI doesn't pay attention then time to find a new GI doc. Also, a person can have a lot of GI distress without having much show up on scoping. I know that my stomach looked ok and I always have issues.

I do want to mention that one time I had some inflammation in my esophagus and the doc put me on Propulsid--I thinnk that it the right drug. Anyway, I soon started having the worst gut aches and strange feelings and just couldn't eat. I finally quit the Propulsid and I got better. Sometimes a med can cause strange things and a person will do better on another medication. Good luck. Irish ;D

Irish,
i dont know if he tested the fliud i stomach. he said i was neg for h pylori- however, im skeptical b/c he didnt tell me to quit the previcid two weeks proir to scope- i had readon internet the PPI meds can interefere with hpylori test..... not sure who is correct- he said no it doesnt.... hummm

siad he didnt see ulcer.. esophagus looked great...

my holistic dr said if i dont get better she is ordering some compunded nystatin- thinks yeast may be a factor....

ill call gastro tomorrow and ask about exactly what he tested. he said he did numerous biopisies and all came back negative.

today i drank a half teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water- that calmed things down rather well. if i take previciod the burn seems to stop but i refuse to take PPIs long term... i read they can have a rebound effect and i was on high doses of them in month of nov and december while being treated for suspected ulcer.

i hate tummy troubles- had them all my life and they are so hard to figure out sometimes

Hi Lori,

I understand having stomach burning/pain.  I've had ulcers since I was a kid (first diagnosed at eight), and many more since then (had IBS for twenty plus years as well).  Yep, been scoped a couple of times now and the doc keeps telling me that nothing but an ulcer or two was found until the last one.  It was determined that I have eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and that explains why my throat burns so much (even with Protonix twice a day).  Also on Flovent to help and it doesn't work so much either.

With your stomach problems, do you get sloughing of the skin inside your mouth?

Nah, the stomach acid was not tested and have had a note put into my file to make sure that its tested when I have the next scope done.

Take care and I sure hope that you get an answer soon!

Tips ..

Most GI drs do not believe in yeast.

Yeast will not usually show up in the stomach, but will in the esophagus.
