scleral lenses

Does aanyone here wear scleral lenses? If so, are they also corrective lenses? I read somewhere about these huge lenses that cover the entire eye and keep them bathed in fluid and are comfortable. I guess they need fitted real well by a specialist. I had to give up contact lenses after 25 years d/t dry eyes, was not diagnosed at that time with SS. besiides them being uncomfortable and people asking me if I had been crying d/t all the redness, I got one of them stuck on my eye surface and was heading out the door to the ER to get it taken off when I at last ripped it off myself.

This is a good link to the Boston Scleral Lens site.  I have the Boston Scleral Lens but cannot wear them because my left eye has an uneven surface because of Lasik surgery.  Whatever you don't go near any eye surgeries looking to fix dry eyes.  If you are chosen to be a candidate for this lens, it's worth looking at.  I do believe you can find other lens that are a fraction of the cost.  You could do a search for your state for "scleral lens."  Good luck.

The lenses referred to in the previous post as Boston Scleral Lenses are now called PROSE devices with PROSE meaning prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem. PROSE treatment was developed by the Boston Foundation for Sight, and has been shown to have an 85% success rate for individuals with Sjogren?s Syndrome.

PROSE treatment isn?t an option for everyone with Sjogren?s, but you can set up a consultation with a BFS or another PROSE provider who can help you determine if it will be a useful treatment for you. Also, a majority of patients who receive PROSE treatment are able to have the treatment costs covered in part or in full through their insurance providers or through other financial assistance.
