Vitamin question

Hi all,

DebK got me wondering about vitamin deficiency and AIs.

Now I've been battling the yo-yo'ing of vitamin D for years and am noticing that the longer I'm on the little green pills, the "highs" are getting lower and lower.  What I mean the first time I took them, my D level went up to 54 (about), and every time the dose has been upped, the test shows that my levels get lower and lower.  Its to the point where the last test I took, the level only went up to 38 (local scale is 30-80).  I've also noticed that my B levels are doing the same thing.

Anyone else noticing that their levels keep decreasing?  Or is that just another peculiarity of my body?

Most of the doctors that I have run into refuse to do tests for vitamins. I have supplemented for years D3 is what I take instead of D. I supplement with B12 also. When I was in the Pain clinic, they suggested the addition of a good daily multi-vitamin for stress and 500mg of additional C.

Yes.  My PCP, in my opinion, is THE BEST doctor I have EVER had the pleasure to know, be associated with, and be a patient of.  She has listened to everything I've said, complained about, speculated about, and she's the one who discovered my hemachromotosis, my Sjogren's, and a few other private issues.  She and my compounding pharmacist decided to try the liquid vitamin theory and she has tested my d levels, my b levels, and other things every four to six months.  They're not at perfect levels but they have gotten better since I went liquid.

I'm a bit skeptical about the other pill form supplements I've decided to try (on the off-chance they MIGHT help) but I've decided to give them six months just to see.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies and I'm going to have to see if the rheumy will prescribe another form of D, the drops sound promising Nara

You know Joe, I take an all in one B supplement along with biotin, C & folic daily to help keep mine in the lower part of the "zone"....ugh.

I've not heard of that Confused, but it sure wouldn't surprised me!

Y'all take care -

My vitamin D level was 16 so I was put on 50,000 iu once a week. After three months it went up to 45. My rheumy thought that I could have an absorption problem, but he said even if I went through testing to know for sure, treatment wouldn't change so I decided not to have the test done. When I finished my last refill I decided to try over the counter Vitamin D of 1000 iu once a day. I don't know if that has really made any difference or not, but I have been feeling a little better lately. I'll have my levels checked in Feb. then I'll know for sure. It makes sense to me that if I have an absorption problem then I probably wasn't able to absorb that high dosage.

I definitely have malabsorption - and used to give myself a B12 shot every 2 weeks or so - but my script ran out and I haven't had it refilled.  I am low on D and B12....so I take folic acid twice a day, a teen multivitamin, and 1/2 of a D pill.  It's helping a bit...but the day after my doses of Methotrexate - I can "feel" my levels are really low - and I feel extremely lethargic!

I also have issues with Vit D and B12. My vit d was 6 and after a year of the 50,000 IU I was able to get it up to 48. They wanted at least 50 so I'm still taking them and have to have that checked again shortly. My B12 on the other hand caused a whole big ordeal of neurological issues. Which normal vitamins or even sublingual don't help. I have to have shots weekly for now. My Dr. wants to rule out Celiac as a cause. My blood tests have been neg. so now she wants me to have the biopsy done to make sure that isn't causing the malabsorption issues.
