constantly.  I am starving feeling right now, I have eaten allll day long.  So not normal for me.  I eat a little and get very full normally.  I have been so hungry for several weeks and can't stop eating.  This is horrifying.  I went on minocycline 3-ish weeks ago, have had hunger in the past from antibiotics, so not sure on that.  I also have acid reflux, take zantac 150 twice a day.  A couple of times had sever upper abdominal pain after eating, so possibly an ulcer??  I switched over to prilosec today; I had my ear/nose/throat dr put me on them several years back, but they made me feel ill, but zantac WAS working pretty well.  Having a lot of acid issues recently.  I have been trying to diet over the last few days, have failed miserably.  My diet officially starts tomorrow and I am going to be so hungry, going to be very difficult.
Can anybody else relate to this?  I have no idea what's going on and honestly, the idea of yet another doctor, another doctor appointment is horrifying.  I already have 3 dr appts this month (dermatologist, rheumatologist, endocrinologist) and a dental cleaning.  Sick of this nonsense and have no time for it.   :(

Hi  :)

Has your thyroid been checked recently? being constantly hungry can be a sign of an overactive thyroid. Prednisone can cause 'the muchies' I believe as well.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Never do tomorrow what you can put off till the day after tomorrow!

Since you were on antibiotics, Im guessing you might have an out-of-control yeast problem...very common, especially with us.
I suggest trying to stay away from all sugars and taking tons of probiotics to see if this helps. I know any hormone change can cause this too. I go in spurts where Im not very hungry, to being out of control. Im on 20mg of steriods as well, but because of my gastroparesis, I cant eat very much anyways.

Prilosec never worked for me....Prevacid worked much better.

I go through spurts of being very hungry and eat more than usual. I think (in my case) my body is making up for the times I am not well enough to eat much at all...

Maybe you need the nutrition as in your body is lacking something? Are you due for any bloodwork?

I have hashi's and that was another thought I had...your thyroid swings from one extreme to the other.  The only thing with that is that I believe one of the symptoms of hyper is excess eating and weight LOSS...so I don't think so.  I do have upcoming endocrinologist appt soon, but that dr is pretty useless.  I only have to go because my vit d is low (always) even with supplementation and he thinks it's low because I'm not taking the vit d....I do forget sometimes, but am taking it, just think my dose it too low.

I am on steroid topical cream ((for psoriasis??? or something caused by the Simponi)), but that's such a low dose that I don't think it would cause this ravenous appetite.  Maybe the yeast issue.  I didn't eat until late afternoon yesterday because I had to go food shopping.  Was quite hungry by the time I got home.  It seems the appetite is so much worse AFTER eating.  I haven't eaten yet today, I woke up with one of the worst headaches I have had, took a migraine pill, it is now almost 11 and I am not having that starving feeling yet.
I have so many different things going on - thyroid; antibiotics; gerd - hard to pinpoint my problem, but will def. be cutting down on sugar with my diet (weight watchers).

Thanks everyone!

I know you didn't start dieting till a few days ago and this seems to coincide with taking the anti-biotic, but it's fairly common for dietary restrictions to lead to or worsen nutritional deficiencies. Have you been getting enough protein in your diet? If it's not that, it could be related to some other nutritional deficiency, so ask your doc about being tested and perhaps a consult with a Registered Dietitian might help.

Hi Autoimmunity  :)

I also have Hashis. I'm usually hypo but swung hyper once. I did not lose weight. I gained weight. I felt hypo but bloods showed hyper. There always seem to be exceptions to 'normal'.

Like Scottie, I also gain weight when my thyroid is hyperactive.  And I don't recall any increase in appetite at that time either.

But g I have noticed recently that I have constant hunger soon after I take Plaquenil in the morning.  I remain hungry for the rest of day, and it only subsides in the morning when I awake.  One hour later I take my Plaquenil and the whole thing starts again...very unpleasant.

Thanks, I just went and took my refrigerator probiotic that helps intestines as other one I take helps stomach.

Any chance the change in your diet during the holidays has caused your issue?  Just wondering... as it sure has mine.  I am still having tummy, intestine, and colon issues and loads of grease floating on water in potty and holds true tonight as a new year is 30 minutes away!

Sure trust the new year brings a healthier one to all of us! :)
