Oh boy! Stabbing burning in nose

Just when it feels like I'm getting a handle on things, something new and totally weird happens. How are we suppose to stay balanced and sane when things just happen out of the blue?

I was making supper tonight. For some reason, I unexpectedly sneezed twice hard and felt the need to blow my nose. Suddenly, my nose had this intense, stabbing burning sensation that choked me. It went into my sinus and my throat. A drink of water made it worse. Finally, I sipped at a glass of milk and actually used a Q-tip to swab out the inside of my nose with a little milk.

It's been about three hours now and the worse of the burning/pain has eased but it feels like it's still on the verge of possibly happening again. I have a headache around my eyebrows. The back of my neck and shoulders are stiff and sore. I'm afraid to try to eat or drink anything. Heck...I'm afraid to move and possibly do something to set it off again!

I figure I either inhaled something that, because my nose/mouth/throat are in a flare, made me react very badly. Or, a facial nerve unexpectedly went bonkers? Or a blood vessel inside my nose did something weird?  I don't know...  But the burning sensation was absolutely staggering.

Man, that is really a weird one Dee. I hope it settles down for you. I sort of ran down a little list in my head sort of like you did in your post. The one thing that hit me is that sometimes when we sneeze we will jar our neck and it hurts.

Wonder if you have a compression in your cervical discs. If it was me I would ask around and find out who the most trustworthy chiropractor is in your area. I am not into the big time cracking etc., but I have a chiropractor in town who I trust for some of my weird things over the years.

He does a lot of heat and stretching and will manipulate me just a little bit. He is also very good at anatomy in relation to the nerves. it might be that is what has happened to you. Hopefully this will resolve itself. Right now a nice warm rice pack on the neck might give some comfort. Good luck and keep us posted. Irish ;D

Deb, what were you cooking/putting together/stirring when the sneeze hit?  Any spice or strong odor?  Chili powder and paprika kill me.  Onions and garlic don't bother me a bit.  Bell peppers (green) are irritating too.
