DRATS!  Coming back from getting an oil change for my car this morning, a black cat crossed in front of me while I was driving.  (I never have understood how cats can survive in a city without getting squashed) ... anyways ... badluck ..... (although the cat has good luck .. it's still alive while living in a city)

Anyone out there superstitious?

I'm not really ... but ... it still plays with the mind ... kinda ....  ;D

Carolina

Ahh, Liz!

You are so right.   Even when we're NOT superstitious (in our logical, rational brain) there is a part that thinks, 'but maybe?........"

It's a fun game to watch in action:

Rational brain:  I see a black cat.

Lizard brain:  run roh, trouble ahead.

Rational brain:  No way!

Lizard brain:  heeee heee heee!

Rational brain:  Ack, all day I'm gonna be looking out for trouble, and surely I WILL see something, and then that old Lizard brain will tell me "I told ya so!".

Rational brain:  I cannot win this one.  STOP thinking about it.

Lizard brain:  very quietly  heee heee heee!   Try to stop thinking about it, just you try!

Hugs

;D  OMG that's great!

I admit it ... when I spill salt at the table I still pick it up and sprinkle it over my shoulder.  I'm not superstitious ... BUT ... ha ha ha

I don't consider myself superstitious, but when those things happen I think of them, because my mom would always tell them like her mom did.

The black cat one, breaking a mirror will bring you 7 years of bad luck (when I was 13 I knocked my mom's mirror over where it was stored, and it broke, and wasn't long until I broke my leg in two places).  :o

One about don't walk under a ladder. I forget the rest.

Hi  :)

I was always brought up to believe that a black cat crossing your path was GOOD luck. It was bad luck if it didn't cross.

Take care - Scottie  :)

My dad was superstitutious so growing up there was a bunch of stuff you did'n't do. I do not think I am in that if a black cat crosses my path I won't turn around and I do step on cracks.

A hat on the bed or singing at the table were two things you did not do around my dad. Both supposedly are bad luck. But then my grandmother always said there was company coming over when you dropped silverware.  ::)

I miss the good old days. Things were more like they used to be back then.

My first mother-in-law says that you're not supposed to watch someone leave -- especially if they're in an airplane -- and watch until they're out of sight. She said that was something she was told during WWII.
