I would recommend for dry sinuses that you use the NettiPot. It is available in most drugstores, etc.  I use the one that has the bottle with a hole at the top. Basically it is a mixture of sea salt (not regular salt) and distilled water (not regular water) that you squirt in your nose.       My sinuses are soooo dry especially in the winter that I have to use it or I get sinus infections. I got one already cause I skipped it for about a week.  :-[ It really does help as your sinuses can't filter "gunk" when they are dry and squirting the mixture in your nose helps.

I would assume a decongestant would dry you out some to a certain extent. With a cold or flu they always say to drink plenty of liquids. Liquids help move the "gunk" along and us Sjoggies just don't have enough of the Liquid.  :(   Gatorade is good for the electrolytes and hot tea is soothing on the nose and throat.  A humidifier, especially in the winter, will help the air not to be so dry and help those nasal passages and skin too.

Durn sorry about the ulcer if you have one. Try to work on cutting down stress as it is not good for ulcers or Sjogrens. Myself I have tummy issues from antibiotics, etc so take FloGen3 a probiotic pill. I'd be going fine for about a month & then whammo. Think maybe it is under control now but will see.

Welcome to the Group and good luck with your gastro. Take a list of questions or what you want to ask him/her as you easially forget once you get there.

Sudafed is drying. I was one of the test subjects for it when I was in Junior High, and High School.

I won't take any colds meds anymore as I did that during my severe flare in April and it makes things MUCH worse.

Try the neti pot and perhaps flonase or whatever for congestion as well as a humidifier.  And vicks. That's all I can do, I want more mucous and I want i to move! My nose is a bit stuffed up this am and I shot it full of saline and am hoping it will liquify.

Wow - I am sorry you have so much to battle right now. I had an ulcer, I will never forget the pain! My gastro did tell me (later on, of course) that PPI meds like Prevacid can be drying to some. I actually take Protonix ongoing with no problems.

However, I can't go near Sudafed or anything like it due to severe, unrelenting dryness and soreness of my nose and throat. I do find Mucinex and LOTS of water to be helpful for a cold without drying. I know NetiPots are supposed to be great, but they just make me feel like I am drowning in salt water...

Good luck and take care!!

for you sjs warriors out there... do you think im in a flare b/c of the cold and it will get better as i get on antibiotics or is it the mtx that is really the key? i can barely speak. eating is so hard..no spit... and then im feeling im going hypothyroid... but endo wont check blood till next week cause " it has to be atleast 30 days since med adjustm, ent"
