Well the itching has sorta ended from the neck up. Went to the dermatologist and she just told me my skin was inflamed, gave me a foam-based corticosteroid and told me to keep taking Claritin. Its the weirdest thing. The skin feels like its about to tear whenever I rake it by accident. Then if I do nothing it just itches when the air moves my hair about. Found out today that normal sunlight burns like a SOB.

I get the itchys too. I have a couple of prescription creams for that. I get the ants feeling too. I felt like little ants were biting me all over. The doc prescribed gabapentin (neurontin) for peripheral nueropathy for it. Ants gone. Not all the itchys and rashes, but most of it.

Itchiness, how do I love thee. Let me count the ways:

I love the extended field of itchy skin across my tummy, that needs lavish and loving application of LacLotion (an Rx lotion).

I love the huge white flakes on the skin of my ankles, that showed up in the latest flare and really scared me. It responded to a. Prednisone, b. lavish application of LacLotion, followed by a coating of vaseline. Actually, b came first, and it wasn't until I was taking Prednisone that it disappeared. "Huge" above means fingernail size (not thumbnail).

I love the chronic itch on a small area below my left breast, that doesn't respond to *anything,* not even Prednisone.

I love the vajayjay (labia) itch that baffled the best dermatologists, who told me to use Desenex. That slows it down for a day or two, is all. (New thought: it may be lichen planus, or lichen sclerosis, both associated sometimes with SjS -- like so much else, sigh.) Now *THAT* itch did respond to Prednisone as though Prednisone were a miracle drug.

I love the overall bumpy skin on my arms and legs that *would* itch, except it's eclipsed by all the other itches.

Is it possible it could be paresthesia? I keep getting goosebumpy and then tingley and then itchy.... I was diagnosed with rosacea years ago this too is flushing with the goosebumps.

I just ready over grafxmakr's original post. One way to check whether the itchiness is neuropathy is to increase the gabapentin a bit and see if the itchiness stops. It would be a kind of paresthesia, especially if it doesn't stay put in one spot.

Also, if there is a new medicine you have been taking, read the literature on side effects of it.

For me, living in an apartment building, when the heat goes on for the building, I begin to itch.

Sounds like me as well I get the itchy scratchey's especially on my fingers, and there is no rash to show for all the scratching.

I'm itchy all the time too, and I hate it.  I take an antihistamine that helps  quite a bit.

Soycoffee, you're hilarious!  I also like your idea with the Gabapentin. I had my neurologist give me a prescription for it due to neuropathy, but I just hate starting another new medicine.  Maybe it will help the itches and e shooting pains.

I'm lying here in bed feeling itchier by the minute . . .

I am the same way! Thank God shorts season is over. I would scratch so hard that I would give myself bloody scratches and you could see bruise finger prints all over. My mom bought me some Nerve pain/anti-itch cream that has helped. I she has reordered it several times for me. My family hates the smell. But Mental and mint don't smell bad at all to me:)

I'm itchy all the time too, but my antihistamine really helps so I think that most of mine is allergies.  Of course it's dry skin too, and who knows what else.  My Claritin D may be drying, but necessary for me if I want to stay sane. If I don't include the decongestant, I end up with sinus infections, like I did recently.

I read somewhere once that itchiness and pain are very closely related. That they both use the same nerve endings, but just manifesting indifferent ways.  Before I had my hip replacement, I had a lot of pain in my hip, but I was very suprised that it itched all the time!
