Hi Ladies. I was curious if any women on here take birth control. I have Pcos and I have taken birth control for symptoms since 2005. My Gyn recently took me off Yasmin (bcp) b.c this specific pill has increased risk of blood clots. She wanted me to switch pills especially b.c of the autoimmune stuff , she said I might be prone to clots.

Anyway I was put on a low dose pill which really is not handling my symptoms and is making my depression worse. I wanted to know if any other women are on higher dose bcp and if there doctor has any reservations about it. I wish I could just discontinue taking the pill but I've tried and my hormones go wild. I'd also like to know if anyone else has the Pcos diagnosis and how they control it. Thanks. 8)

Hi I have started taking the mini pill which is progestreon only pill about 5 weeks ago. I am taking it to see if it helps my severe pmt symptoms. I have not got pcos but have endometriosis and was supposed to take pill to help with that.

When I went on this pill I felt great, at the moment I feel like I have pmt and have felt more anxious and down but would normally be having a period at this time so would be like this anyway. I am going to give it longer as  am hoping it is going to help with me.

I'm currently on birth control pills and had been on the strongest ones available, but have recently switched to see if my "spotting" as the gynacologist calls it (I call it menstruating a week too early each month) goes away.  No luck yet, but I've only been one month on the new stuff so far.

She did mention blood clots and her concern for me was when I mentioned that I got migraine auras (no headaches, just the auras).  She said women who get migraines or auras have a slightly higher risk of stroke if there's a blood clot in the brain.

But I've been on the pill for years with never an issue.

Hi Drylady,

Sorry that I can't offer any info on bc because of a genetic blood disorder and can't take any form of it if there are hormones involved.

Hi!

Your post is so ironic because I was taking BeYaz but I finish my last pack of that this week because I wanted to switch to a generic version (it's cheaper and has a lower risk of blood clots).  The generic version is a higher dose than the BeYaz I was taking, but my gyn doesn't know I have Sjogren's yet because I haven't been in for my annual yet this year and I was only diagnosed with Sjogren's in December 2011.  I will definitely bring up the higher dosage to him and risk factors of blood clots with Sjogren's when I seem him next (I think my next appt is in April).  I can keep you posted on what he says! :)
