I am also gaining weight, although I eat FAR less than I ever have. The only thing I can attribute it to is the fact that I don't have energy to do anything besides sit around on my big bum.  I read about people making themselves walk for 30 minutes, but I would CROAK!

Hi jpd54,
I see in your signature that you are on nerontin. I have had two friends that were on it and both of them gained at least ten pounds in a very short period of time.

I bet the meds are the reason. Check with your doctor.

Hi  :)

I spent most of my life underweight. I started gaining in my mid forties. I am still gaining. I eat healthily. I don't eat big portions. I eat a lot less than I used to. I blame the original weight gain on my thyroid - but it is medicated now - and the weight has not gone. It sucks!

Take care - Scottie  :)

I have gained a lot of weight due to different meds and it doesnt come off. grrrrrr......the prednisone that I was on the last 2-3 months caused me to gain more, and to top it all off I am 8 weeks pregnant and I know I have to really watch my weight (in general I need to also). it is so frusterating! you are not alone!!!!!-hootyhu

I was just going to post a question on this topic. My weight has been stable for years. Since startingg Plaquenil I have started gaining weight. My eating habits have not changed.

I will be interested to read what others have to say.

I blame all my weight gain on my meds and the fact that I, like many of us here, am unable to do much physical activity. It stinks being heavier but there could be much worse things that a little extra around the butt and thigh area.  ;)

I HATE my weight gain - 35 pounds, at least. Yup, definitely due in part to sitting around on my tush yet eating as if I was still walking, swimming and generally not being a slug. But it started after I began taking Lithium to boost the action of my anti-depressant.

I keep telling myself that I'd rather be bigger but stable, than slim and a mess. That works up to the point where I see myself in a photo. AWFUL.

Hootyhu - Congratulations! I hope you have a healthy and happy pregnancy. I craved oranges and spinach during my second one and actually LOST weight! Please gd by you!

Grant it...I have not been diagnosed with anything officially yet.  I started running almost two years ago.  I've been very disappointed that I've dropped almost two pants sizes but no weight.  I do understand all this "muscle is heavier than fat" science.  But I've been eating less.  I try to run 15-20 miles a week (when the fatigue doesn't keep me from it).  I've ran my first half marathon in the beginning of Sept.  To me, there should be some pounds shedding happening.  I have this on my list for the Rheumy visit on Tuesday.  (Speaking of which, I've convinced myself that in this one hour appointment, i will probably not have any true answers yet.)
Plaquenil (generic), vitamin D, Amitriptyline, Citalopram

LisaMarie, since you have gone down 2 pant sizes I think you may be over thinking this. muscle actually weighs more than fat which may be why you are slimmer without losing weight.

20 lbs since my diagonsis - I blame the prednisone mostly (I have, amongst other problems a hump!), as well as the general exhaustion which means that I can barely move.

I found out that I have a rathke cyst which is on the pituitary gland. I looked online and pituitary symptoms can be weight gain.
