on the inside. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ouch, I have a split in my nose from it being so dry. I put neosporin on it last night & woke up with a zit next to it! And did I mention, it's INSIDE my nose.  :'(

Viamin E oil usually helps me. This is an ongoing thing with me, and many of us here!

LOL, those nose zits are really painful :'(

I've read many warnings that we should not put anything greasy, fatty, oily in our nose - these lipids, once against our skin can liquify and slip down our respiratory tract and enter our lungs where they can develop into Lipoid Pneumonia. Not fun. I have had enough bronchitis/asthma/pneumonia to last me a live time - so I avoid using all lipids in my nose. Once you get lipids in your lungs, they are there permanently.

OTOH, I know that pain of breathing through an extremely dry, cracked respiratory system. It does help to add steam/moisture to the air using a humidifier, taking a shower or holding your head above the sink while running hot water while draping a towel over your head and sink to capture the steam.

Have you asked your doctor for a suggestion?

Dry cracked nose .. yep.
Add bleeding ... that's me.
Splits on the ends ... inside too.
Every so often it's so bad that I do put some vaseline on the inside.
Not much ... but some.
Gotta.

I have this each month for so many days. At the moment I have some relief. I use saline spray in my nose everyday, but when I am in pain with the sore, cracked nose inside, I also use the saline gel. It helps for comfort until it clears up for awhile.

Thanks everyone! I went out & bought a small humidifier to put on my nightstand. It is neat because I can point the steam right at my pillow!

Just wanted to say... Perfect timing on this thread!! and so glad I read the "lipid cream" warning.. Cuz I did that last night I was in so much pain... I had to sleep with warm towel on my face.. 8)  tried the other stuff.. we are just in such a dry climate.. Didn't have dry issues till we moved here.. Always love my Texas climate cuz the humidity was so high..

Will try the saline gel though...

thanks everyone..

My nose is so dry. I can hardly smell anything, unless it is totally repulsive. I use saline spray many, many times a day, and it only works for a minute or two. So- there's nothing that can help this?

I really, really hate this, more than almost all of the others. It irritates me every minute of every day. At least this one doesn't hurt, or make me go to bed... :-\

I tried the saline gel & humidifier last night (practically blowing on me) & they both helped a lot!

My humidifier is a cool mist with an attachment to direct the moisture which worked great!

Skylar, thanks for the lipid info. I wasn't aware of that but now I'm wiser   ;)

Thanks Carie - the lipoid pneumonia is scary - any oils that drip down into your lung remain there for life - you can't suck them back out. I'm glad the saline gel and humidifier worked - sounds like a smart, winning combination.

Ouch - my sympathies.  This is no fun. I have more of a problem in the winter (probably because of the furnace) and used to get nosebleeds at lot - especially at night.

My ENT told me to try 1) a warm air humidifier and 2) Mentholatum/Vicks/Carmex and use a Q-tip to "paint" it on the inside of your nostrils just in the lower part (where the septum is cartilage, not up where the bone is).

I use the humidifier and also Carmex (it doesn't burn as much as the other two...less menthol I think).  But the Carmex keeps me from getting so dry and the menthol in it helps a little with congestion.  I have "painted" vitamin E oil too, but the Carmex (or generic) seems to help with congestion as I said and it's easier for me to deal with than the E-oil.

The hot shower and the face-over-the-sink work well for me too...one reason I really love my morning shower.

If I remember right, the Lipoid Pneumonia became a problem when, umpteen years ago, docs advised putting the mentholatum/E-oil or whatever with warm water in a nasal spray. The lipids where forced much further up into the sinus cavities and from there drained into the lungs.

Saline (salt water) will only work til the water evaporates and then you are left with just the salt.  Salt is a desiccant - a drying agent...think beef jerky.
