What do you do for those awful, constant aches?

A66eyroad

I take Naproxin (Aleve) every night before bed.  Good stuff.

Plaquenil, Atabrine, DHEA, Aleve, Evoxac, Allegra/Benedryl, esomeprazole.

Hi Sewandsew,

I take Tylenol, and what are you taking if anything?

This may sound simple, and of course it's a more complicated situation, but in a nutshell:

I Try to get enough rest (if you've seen my "sleeping" thread that doesn't always work)
For extra achey days, I sit in a tub of hot water with epsom salts. It seems to really help!
I take Savella, which has seemed to help me with the muscle pain.
Am careful to keep stress low; I take time alone each day just "chillin"
And sometimes a heating pad can really be a blessing.

bloodless

When the tramadol, meloxicam and gabapentin don't cut it, I pop a darvocet or hydrochodone. I got those from ortho. Eventually I'll run out :( In the mean time my rhuemy has been trying several other drugs. Savella, Cymbalta and Lyrica are useless to me. Doc says it's hard to determine which is causing the most pain, fibro, sjs or the lupus. Since he's tried all the fibro drugs he can scratch that off I suppose.
I miss the good old days. Things were more like they used to be back then.

Dear sewandsew:

Naproxen (Aleve) is my drug of choice.  I'm allergic to all the heavy hitters, unfortunately.

And Naproxen has been close to giving me ulcers, so I have to balance usage very carefully.

We each have to find what works for us individually.   It takes time and things change as you go along.

Keep us posted.

The kind of aches I have are not muscle or joint.  It is like I have the flu.  I do have tramadol since ibuprofen wasn't working but tramadol interferes with a good night sleep.  If I take it I make sure it is before lunch time hoping it'll wear off by bedtime.  I can't take plaquenil nor imuran.  Sometimes I'll just lay down with my electric lap throw and get some comfort that way.

I get nasty pains and body aches. I take Cymbalta daily it helps. I also have 20 mg baclofen, helps some but knocks me out when I need it. I try not to use the Baclofen much as it drys me out to badly. I have Ryzolt which is long acting Ultram and I use it sometimes during the day but it wires me out and if I don't take it early enough I won't sleep.

I have started taking Calcium/Magnesium at night before bed and it seems to help quite a bit, I haven't needed the Baclofen lately. I used to use Bosweilla which is from the Frankinsence tree and it worked well for a few years with arthritis pain but then it quit working well. Somtimes drinking hot tea that is anti inflamitory like ginger root helps. I also use a heating pad when its so bad I just roll in pain.

How did we ever get like this????

Good topic. I have the same problems and am glad to read the comments here.
Question to add: my chiropractor said that I should use cold instead of hot to relieve the pain from inflammation. She said hot/warm draws blood to that area, which causes swelling, which actually stresses the nerves even more. She said cold reduces the swelling, relieving the nerves. I'd never heard of that before. Has anyone else?

I have heard that and sometimes hot does seem to make it worse but sometimes cold makes me cramp worse. I guess it just depends on what is causing the pain. For me it seems like my neck pain and headaches respond well to cold and the rest of my body really prefers the warmth. I wonder what everyone else thinks?

really?

I have enough problems with cold, I definately dont wany anything cold touching me,, I quit trying to figure it all out, theres not alot I can do about it anyway,, neuropathy is just that,, a mixture of motor and sensory stuff,, what didnt hurt yesterday feels like alimb cut off today,, cold today may feel hot tomorrow,, so many things and its no wonder we have anxiety issues,,

I was just diagnosed in June this year. So medication wise, I have not much to add. But I have been in pain for many years. With no medical treatment from doctors. At least none that worked. I tried many things, and nothing really helped my body. But doing dishes by hand did help my hands sometimes. Using hot water to wash and cold to rinse seem to ease the pain. for just a little while, but it was nice during that little while.
