I have continued to itch and break out in rashes. I go to the doctor and seen a nurse practitioner. She said if it's not chiggers, then it must be scabies. I thought I never got scabies when I worked with the kids at school, and some had them.

All I know is I have a prescription and filled for cream to use for this. How could I have got this?

I heard on the news today that there have been scabies outbreaks at some nursing homes and hospitals in a city near me.  It sounds like it's pretty easy to get if you happen to touch the skin of someone with it.

This is so sick!   :)  Is that why I have them, because I have been exposed to them around someone , and with this autoimmune disease thingy, I can't fight them off?

I feel like I have the plaque. I know what I have said in the past about having a hard time cleaning the house, because of being so sick, but I am a clean person.

Susan, It is amazing how these critters can spread.I swear they have wings.

Make sure to treat your sores and check your hubbies skin to see if he got them so he can be treated. Also, wash your bedsheets and put in the dryer to help chase the buggers away.

Some friends of ours went shopping and the wife tried on some clothes and ended up getting scabies. They retraced their activities and figured the clothes shopping was what did it.

You can get them by touching almost anything or rubbing against someone in a store, etc. The hot weather probably makes them really propagate as people have been so hot and sweaty this summer. Good luck with the treatment. Do a search on them so you can find any other info that might be of help to you. Good luck. Irish ;D

Susan - Scabies sound disgusting but it's really not a reflection of who you are or if you are a clean person. I used to have a daycare center and I was always surprised that the "clean" families were the ones to get it. I never had one "dirty" child bring it to my facility. The PERCEPTION is that only dirty people get it. That's just not true. My mother worked in a nursing home for many years. She ended up getting scabies several times from the older people living there.

Please, don't feel ashamed. The treatment will get rid of it and everything will be fine. Having scabies doesn't mean you are dirty.

Just wanted to toss in my two cents. Several years ago, I got a rash that wouldn't go away on the back of my hands. My family doctor called it scabies and my whole family had to be rubbed down with "poison" medication. A week later the rash was wrapping around my wrist so we had to be treated again. A week later it was worse and he referred me to the dermatologist.

The derm gave me cortisone shoots which cleared it up but each time it came back even worse. After six months she had tried every medication she could think of and the rash was all the way up to my elbows (thick, puss, insane itching) and the derm gave up. She referred me to the Indiana University Med Center.

The IU doc spent two minutes with me and said, "This is just a nasty case of topical dermatitis. Rub it with Crisco, wear cotton gloves and sleeves, and keep it dry."

I didn't believe her. After all the months, doctors, meds, shots, wrappings, misery...she tells me something this simple? No way! I cried all the way home. My hubby forced me to follow her instructions because there was nothing else to do.

Within two weeks, it was gone. All that because the original doctor thought it was scabies. So just a heads-up: if it doesn't get better, get some more opinions! Good luck!

Thanks Folks

You helped me feel better. Also, I have thought about if it isn't scabies, especially since it hasn't been that long since I was diagnosed with Lupus. But, last night I did use my scabies cream.  I will wait and hope it clears up.

Also Joe it's true about a compromised  immune system. Too late, I have already touched the key board.  ;D
