This morning at work I was in the kitchen getting some coffee when in walked my supervisor. She's had a terrible cold for over a week now, so I asked her if she was feeling any better.  I was rendered speechless when she said these words:

"I was telling my husband last night, now I know how A66ey feels being sick all the time, coming home from work and having to go right to bed."

Total astonishment! I never detected a sympathetic note in her voice before. It was always, "Yes, dear, we all get sick sometimes and we all have to come to work anyway." or "Too bad for you, wah, wah, wah."

Is it OK for me to feel completely smug right now?

Haha, yes, be smug all you want, you've earned it! But count your blessings, your boss will be more supportive in the future. :)

Nobody ever truly understands another persons ordeal until they walk in their shoes.  Then, the lightbulb comes on and they "get it".

I think your supervisor will show more empathy towards you now.

Have a good Friday and enjoy the weekend!   ;)   ;D

Wow, I guess you were very surprised!  Maybe she's thought about this a bit more lately.

Like Bucky, I think she'll have more compassion for you in the future. That will make your work life easier.

Have a good weekend! :)

A66ey, that must seem like a real breakthrough for you.

A few years ago, my manager asked why I always took longer than other people to get better. Of course, I didn't know the answer to that. However, in recent times, and particularly since I was diagnosed with SJS, she has been the most kind, caring, supportive person I could wish for.

Sometimes, it just takes a while for people to realize how much we struggle just getting by.
