Men . . . . they can be so difficult some times!   

I'm the bad guy because I called and canceled our sons tennis lesson this afternoon.  Now keep in mind . . . it is 95 degrees out with a heat index of 114!     On the weather page it says, "Dangerous heat index.  Outdoor exposure should be limited."

My husband just gets home from work and says, "you shouldn't have canceled the lesson".  My son doesn't know yet that his lesson was canceled (by me).  He's not going to be a happy camper either!!  (His lesson is at 6 p.m.)

They just don't get it . . . it's dangerously hot outside.  Boy child does not need to be running all around a tennis court in a heat index of 114!  He sweats buckets when the temp is in the low 80's - let alone being in the mid 90's.

I'm sticking to my guns . . . no tennis lesson today.  End of story.  Be mad, be angry . . . . whatever . . . get over it!

Yes we are very difficult at times. How would he feel if your son suffered heat stroke? Or severe exhaustion? With a heat index of 114 here today, they have changed the hours of the international soccer camp. They have mist generators, shade, and water to help the players.

Oh yes Bucky, the "long haul road", recognize that puppy from what some of my siblings did while growing up!:D  

Yeah, I remember playing out in 104 temperature and I thought I'd die after a few minutes and scampered home right fast!   Dived into the shower and learned quickly that the only water available was hot...go figure.

Hang tough lady, and don't forget to put on your suit of armour for the "comments" coming your way!!

Gosh you'd think these schools, etc would offer some education, pamplets or Something about health and sports.
Heck I had tennis in junior high and the coach always had us take a salt tablet. And she talked to us about sports, eating , nutrition and weather affecting our bodies.  Have the coaches forgotten that anymore?

I totally agree with you.  I had a driver's ed instructor that would get mad at me for slowing down at intersections when I didn't have to.  Well I knew the other driver was "supposed to stop" but if he/she didn't - I didn't want "She had the Right of Way or the Green" on my tombstone. You just don't put yourself in bad situations if you don't have too.

Better safe than sorry, Bucky!      I bet your son was secretly relieved that you cancelled it, even if he didn't admit it...

Vent away, Bucky!      It seems to amaze me that more things aren't cancelled or changed hours with an extreme heat situation as they are with an extreme cold situation.

Not 100% sure this is true, but read the other day that there are many more heat-related illnesses and deaths with the heat than the cold temps.  I wouldn't take chances with my kid being out there, either.

Well . . . . I played it safe and "texted" my son (who was in his bedroom and I was in the dining room  ) and told him his tennis lesson had been canceled due to the temperature.  He "thinks" his cousin (the one who set this lesson up) is the one who canceled it.  So, he has no idea it was Mom who canceled the lesson.   

He wouldn't get upset if Debbie canceled, but if Mom canceled it . . . well, let's just suffice it to say at 15.7 yrs. old he would not be a happy camper!

Back in high school,, during football camp, they had us running around in 90 degree heat,, very little water, boys puking, thank goodness they realized after a few heat stroke deaths that maybe its not a good idea to practice in pads with no water and 90 degree heat,,
