I have a sad day tomorrow-funeral

Tomorrow will be a tough day for my husband and I.  We will be attending the funeral of a friend of almost 50 years.  Yes, you can have friends for that long, but it's few and far between these days especially.  Many of our friends have passed on or moved to warmer climates.

My best friend's husband passed away.  He'd had a rough few years.  He had part of his leg amputated about 5 years ago.  Then he got infection and they had to take more of the leg up past the knee.  He could not adjust to his artificial leg and had a hard time getting around.  About a year ago, they discovered he had colon cancer and did surgery.  Six months later, he went back to the dr and they found it had spread.  He told the dr he didn't want any more treatment for the cancer.

He was a tough man and I know living the way he was - was not how he described living.  To make matters even more sad, their 37 year old daughter died two years ago of pancreatic cancer.  She had children of 10 and 16.  The children's father is deceased.  My friend and her husband were raising the kids and it will fall to the wife entirely now.  They also lost 3 children as infants.  I was her "maid of honor" and she was my "made of honor" many years ago, like 48.  We got married almost a year apart.  I have to be strong tomorrow.  Lucy

I was not feeling well this moning.  A night of cold sweats and freezing to death.  I did call my friend and talked to her for awhile.  She is holding up well and I will be in touch with her in a couple of days.  She knows I have been having health trouble.  For once, I didn't feel "guilty" for cancelling plans or changing them.  I have a lot of problem with that.  My husband is so good at helping me, but has a hard time understanding that, but does well in the end.  Lucy

OH dearest Eye,

It is so sad to be losing someone who suffered so much.   And leaves so much behind for his wife to manage, as well.

Honor his life. And one day, his entire life will be what you remember, and not just the difficult days of the ending.

The important thing that you are doing is providing on going support to your friend, his wife.   Being present or absent from a specific event isn't that important.

Can I make a tiny joke?   You talked about people who had died OR moved to warmer climates.

Which made me think of some people  who die AND move to warmer climates!

Well it was semi funny to me.

Hugs

Elaine

Lucy,
I'm sorry for your friend and her family.   Your continued friendship will be so important to her.  I'll pray for them, too.   I hope you rest well and feel better tomorrow.

Lucy - my sympathy to you and your husband on the loss of a dear friend.   As we get older, we realize that is going to eventually happen, but it still doesn't make it any easier.

Wishing you and your friend comfort tomorrow at the funeral and the days to follow.  May memories of happier days together as friends comfort you all in your sorrow.

Hugs,
Bucky
