large fiber and small fiber neuropathy

I asked my neuro what kind of peripheral neuropathy I have.  She said that the nerve conductivity tests picked up large fiber neuropathy mostly sensory with a little bit of motor too.  And due to the underlying autoimmune disease she is sure that I have small fiber neuropathy also.  They must have been offering a two for one special at the neuropathy store!

Anyway, I was wondering how many of you have both kinds of neuropathy?  Wondering what this means for me?  Can't really find a lot of information about large fiber neuropathy.

Lighthouse I am so sorry you have been diagnosed with this condltion, there are quite a few here with it ,

Inga spring to mind as I'm pretty sure she has both, Did the neuro give you any medication?,

NavyDad has this too, but seems he's given up the boards,  Hope someone sees your post and can give you more advice than I can.

lighhouse~i just got nerve conduction test & my nerve guy said i had polyneuropathies in graspers & feeters which just means
^wide spread nerve damage^! both motor & sensory is the way he put it!!!

i also have severe carpal tunnel in both hands which needs surgery & a pinched nerve in elbow & frozen shoulder & no reflexes in ankels!!!

nerve guy said that they would need ta do a nerve BIOPSY ta find out 'bout SMALL FIBER NERVES!!!
but said that w/the widespread nerve damage that DID show up he was certain that the small fiber nerves were also involved!!!
i say fue~y ta the biopsy 'cause just seems like waste of money...ya know!!!

I have large fiber motor neuropathy and small fiber sensory neuropathy. For me it is the muscle weakness from the large fiber that is most disabling. I have been on immunosupressants and more recently IVIG which seems to have stopped it from progressing further.

Thank you flutterfly and Sha.  These sites were most informative.  I'm going to save them to my hard disk for further reference.

I had a cramp in my arm so bad the other night it woke me up from a sound sleep.  Looking at the information, guess I can tack that up to the neuropathy also.

you are so welcome...hope they were useful...and if ya ever can't find something....feel free to pm me and i will do my best at researching it for ya! ;D

We all gotta stick together cuz ya know the docs are only there during the appointments and usually leaves us with more questions than answers where we end up having to answer them ourselves or wait till next appointment!LOL By then we forgot what we were gonna ask....
