How long before Plaquenil works?

Hi.  I replied to  a post the other day, but I am new here.  I have ANA positive blood along with SSA.  I'm taking Salagen and Plaquenil for RA.I've only been taking them for maybe 6 weeks.  Right now I feel as though there are weights attached to my arms and legs.  I'm 32 and I've always been fairly active.  But, over the past few weeks, my muscles are so fatigued.  Walking up the 3 flights of stairs to my classroom bothers my legs.  I used to jog up them.  Writing on the board, blow drying my hair, and holding my 2 year old son makes my arms tired.  I also feel as if I could sleep for days and I get tingling in my fingers and feet sometimes.  Is this all to be expected?  How long does it take for the Plaquenil to take effect?  I put a call into my Rheumatologist, and I'm waiting for a call back.  But, since I'm new to all of this, I'm just trying to make sense of things.  Thanks.

Imac,

Welcome to Sjogren's World.  It can take up to six months before you notice that the Plaquenil is helping.  There's no way to speed the process up . . some feel it right away, for others it takes months.  Hang in there.

If you type in the word Plaquenil in the search box to the top left it will take you to previous threads about Plaquenil if you want to read them.

Hi lmac  :)

I was on 200mg Plaquenil for about 4 months and told my rheumy I didn't feel any different. He put the dose up to 400mg daily. A couple of months after that things felt better for me.  Seems to take different amounts of time with different people.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi,

Just wanted to ask if you have had your TSH levels checked?  Hypothyroid (slow) can add to all that you are feeling.  I remember when my hairdryer felt like I was trying to lift a car over my head and feeling so exhausted!  I have Fibromyalgia (or maybe Sjogrens) and am Hypothyroid.   Just another direction to look in to.

Good luck to you.  Hope you are soon feeling better.  :)

It took about 7 or 8 months for it to work for me, and I still have episodes of bad fatigue but not quite as bad as before.
