Hi Navydad,

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with this. My tongue was burning a few weeks ago (lost sense of taste) and it did resolve.
I'm not a scientist--but perhaps a waterpic with baking soda or just rinsing your mouth in that kind of solution?
I just bought a Waterpic from Costco and I find it very soothing.
Keep your mouth moist--but do not use anything that aggravates. Find what's gentle for you right now.

Navydad,
I just thought of something else.
When I was at a local Sjogren's group a few weeks ago, the dentist speaker recommended a product called Evoraplus.

It's "probiotics" for the mouth (the good bacteria).
I ordered a box of 60 probiotic mints. I've used it a bit. (They taste okay, tolerable.)

The dentist at this meeting had said  that Xylitol is good as it kills bad bacteria and lets good bacteria grow. The probiotics
go one step further and "add" good bacteria to the mouth.

It's hard to tell if it's doing anything for my mouth, but it's another option.

Mine always burns too.  It is the neuropathy.

Navydad,

So sorry about your burning mouth - but Inga's right.  If it weren't for the neuropathy, think the other Sjogren's stuff might be a little easier to deal with.

Thanks for recommending a dachsie.  If I ever get my neuropathy under control or it GOES AWAY (ha-ha), I'll definitely get a small, lap dog for the last time.

navydad, Have you ever been checked forpernicious anemia? Sometimes a burning mouth goes with this. The treatment is vit B12 injections that can be done at home. Need the blood work, etc.

Also, have you ever tried taking a plain old over the counter Vitamin B complex vitamin??? Years ago when my sciatia first started my doc told me to eat a lot of cold cereal(contains lots of vitamins) and take a vit B supplement. Just a thought!!! So many times we have to search around to help ourselves cause the docs are generally baffled. Irish ;D

YES!!! B Complex is very good for nerve damage. I belong to a SFN board and the B vitamins are essential in helping maintain nerve health... I myself take a B 100 Complex, sometimes 2x a day and it does help. B vitamins are water soluble so there very, very little chance of having and overdose reaction from it... only 'side effect' is neon yellow pee! LOL!

navydad,

I had that a few weeks ago--miserable. Lived on bananas, yogurt, and milk for several days. Tried to eat a piece of toast (thinking of something bland) and the roughness made me cry. Mine went away after 5 days or so. I started taking a GNC B vitamin supplement and antibiotics for a sinus infection. I don't know if the antibiotics helped? the b vitamins? or maybe it went away on its own? who knows - maybe the yogurt?! I also used Target brand neosporine cream with pain reducer on my lips and around my mouth. Seemed to relieve some of "outside" pain/problems. Also started using the Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash which was much less irritating than the normal stuff. Hope this doesn't last long for you. Hang in there!

On a good note, my blood pressure which has been high for past year is now normal. Guess the no salt diet really works!
