plaquenil and paranoia

Does anyone know if paranoia could be a side effect of plaquenil?  I've been on it for several years now (400 mg) daily.  I have cut back to 200 mg recently because the paranoia has been so bad.

I don't know about this med. but somewhere I read that thyroid problems can cause paranora. Now I don't know for sure how true, I mentioned this once before and those with thyroid issues said it is NOT! Don't know!

It is the only thing that came to my mind

I have been on this medication for 3 years and can't say I have ever experienced paranoia even though I know someone is watching and listening to every word a say and are planning to kidnap me ;)

I've been on it 3 years too and can't say anything like that.  I take at least a million meds  ;D  and I haven't had paranoia yet.  Let's hope I don't
I do think we are all so different that I think just about anything is possible.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question but I think it would be worth asking your pharmacist about it. I know there was an antimalarial drug that COULD cause paranoia and other symptoms but I don't know how closely it is related to Plaquenil - if at all - and I'm afraid the name escapes me right now too.

I don't remember reading that Plaquenil had paranoia as a side effect - but hey - my memory really is not good these days!

Look what I found about Lupus though the article is about men if you search more you will see it affects women with lupus as well.

Thanks for the answers. Maybe what I have is extreme anxiety instead of paranoia.  I will talk to the doctor about it next time I go in.
