Lip biopsy coming up

Hey everyone,
having the lip biopsy on Thursday morning!!!! Anyone ever have one?  any tips?? will i be able to talk on friday, i have a simulation to do at school (nursing simulation)?? Is this a definitive test?

Hi Saranski,
Take some ice with you that will help against the swelling.
I had not much pain the next day but I didn t want to talk much.
I liked it most to sit quiet on a chair the next two days.

Hi Saranski,

Oh boy, the lip biopsy.  Yes, I had one done, and the doctor that did mine botched it up (wound up with silk stitches, and a permanently numb area on my lower lip); and don't get me started on the lab, ack!  The rheumy wants me to have another one done, and my answer to him would be a bit x-rated for this board!

The only thing I can suggest to you about the biopsy is that you have a good doctor that knows how to get a good sample (with no damage to your lip), and a lab that reads enough samples every month so they know what they are looking for.

There have been so many threads/posts on lips biopsies....your best bet would be to put those words in the search box above and you will see a ton of topics come up that you can read....some have had good experiences and some have had bad ones. I personally had a good doc ..a good lab...and a good experience.

The most important thing to remember is what Patze said...make sure you have a good doc that has done many of these procedures and a good lab that has read many of these biopsies. And remember that even if the biopsy turns out to be negative...that still doesn't mean that you definitely don't have sjogrens!

Lip biopsy was fine at the time, the doc was great (and extremely good looking)!!! However, after the numbing medicine has worn off I have a lot of pain, not only where he took the 4 glands from but all the way down the jaw line on that side and into that ear.  I have taken tylenol, ibuprofen, and tramadol.   At least now it is tolerable.  I am now going to e-mail my nursing instructor to let her know that I am NOT going to be able to make it tomorrow's simulation.  I thought i was a tough cookie, apparently not!!!!  ENT also said that my salivary glands and lymph nodes were "very generous in size" and regardless of what the biopsy says (1/3 come back negative) it doesn't mean it is sjogren's and my symptoms still need to be treated.  So now it is a waiting game, again.  I'll let you know what the results are.  Thanks for asking.

yep, doing better today.  I was actually able to eat some eggs.  Lip is very swollen and my kids tell me i look like "fat albert" (aren't they sweet?)  I hope the swelling is down by monday, i have to go out to school to get some stuff done and tuesday i have clinicals.  Still can't talk the greatest and forget laughing!!!! But it is getting better, thanks for asking.

hey,
missed the phone call today, I was at clinicals (at the hospital for nursing school) message said she won't be back until thursday, so now i have to wait until then.  I was actually able to eat a chicken sandwich for dinner tonight!!!!! i will miss the excuse for not having to eat ice cream   Will post the results when i know)
