Eyelids ?? A "does this happen to anyone else" question :-P

Since I mentioned in my big whiney post that I am into a big flare, I wonder. Does this happen to anyone else. Do your eyelids, where your eyelashes are, swell, itch and become so irritated you lose eyelashes too? Just curious

Lord Yes! It's a mess too! I can prove it by a ID I had to take during one of these flare ups! 
Needless to say this one does not get shown much except in EXTREME NECESSITIES! Can't wait for this one to EXPIRE, but It'll be my good chance that I'll be looking like a monster then too!

I have had this for the past three years, they seem to last quite a long time, months. My eyes can get blood red, swollen sore, infected and talk about itching, even up under the lid in a far place I can't reach so I rub and rub til I now have dark circles. My eyes give me so much trouble I HATE to have to go out during these times, but I sometimes have to.

I thought it was just due to my being allergic to the world! You mean to tell me it's from Sjogrens? And people say they can't see any signs of an illness??

MAN THIS SUCKS, DON'T IT!? I use this as proof positive that my husband must really love him some Bernice to proudly walk around with me when I look like that.

I have had this happen, too.  I don't think my eyelashes fell out though, I think I pulled them out trying to make my eye stop itching.  I haven't had this happen for quite a while, so maybe the Restasis has helped in this area.

If you havent had it checked you should when mine did that it was blepharitis.It may just be part of your flare and the way it manifests but unfortunately mine wasnt.I am very particular about my peeps so I made an appt to go in and get it checked.

I was miserable by the time I got to the eye dr and it hurt.But they got me fixed up pretty quickly.

Every day I take 50 mg od doxycycline.  This antibiotic keeps my eyelids free of infection.

Yes I have had that happen.  Restasis does seem to help and I have given up using eye makeup years ago.  Hope you find relief soon.  I use an antibiotic ointment at nighttime while I sleep and that helps too.

Had this happen for months.  Came on slowly and just became part of my life.  Thought it was just another symptom.  Went to the eye doc several months ago and he said I had what amounted to dandruf on my eye lashes and that it was a lack of good eyelid hygene.  Left the eye doc feeling dirty.  Went home and googled and discovered Blephasitis.  Through this site I found many others that had the same problem.

The best advice I got from the posts was using diluted baby shampoo and a wash rag and washing the eye lids where my eyelashes are.  I now do this every day when I shower and have niticed a difference after the first week.  The baby shampoo works much better than the eye washes/pads that the eye doc recommended.

Hi missyb, I know that it's a funky looking thing, but can you see your eye doctor about it?  I too use the baby shampoo on mine, along with the hot compresses when I can, but it my oil glands that no longer function.

Hi Roxanne, can you see another doctor (is the doctor an opthamologist or an optometrist)?  Gee wiz, what's up with his bed side manner?  Dang!

More gentle than baby shampoo is a liquid soap called cetaphil.  You can get it in your eyes and it does not hurt.  You can find it at Sams or walmart.

      Yes I have that also, My eyes itch so bad sometimes it makes me crazy, But I have noticed a difference when I use the eye wash pads and when they run out I will use the baby shampoo. I know it sounds crazy but it works so well. I know it even makes me see a little better. I have so much trouble with my eyes.

Hi Crabcakes, I just put a bit on my wet finger and gently rub along the eye/eyelash area.  It feels a bit different for a while, and I do it so often that I forget I've done it sometimes, and do it again .

Hi Theresa, you mention that your eyes itch, have you seen an allergist by chance?  I know that itching eyes sometimes mean that you might have an allergy to something or another, I know that I have problems with some cosmetics and often get itchy eyes when I've used them.

Hi Tuckerdog, yep, isn't Cetaphil really good?  I often use it (when I remember to buy it! ) for the face/body these days, it sure does a good job without drying out the skin terribly like soap!

Crabcakes, I keep the little dixie cups in the bathroom and put a squirt of baby shampoo in the cup, add a little water and use a wash cloth to wash my lids.  I pull my lower lid down a little and rub along the eyelash part and then do the top lid along the eyelash part.  Then I do the same thing just using hot water.

I have found personally that the baby shampoo is cheaper and more effective than the eye wash pads.

Patze, I will look for a new doc next time I am due for an appt.  I have used this doc for years and even know the family personally. You just never know.  Roxanne

I know it's tough, but I'm glad to hear that you'll be looking for a second opinion.  I've gotten several second opinions, and so far I've switched only a couple of times to the new doctor (this is not counting the doctors that I just outright fired).
