Help, we had a medieval day at school today and I really hurt my back moving tables in my classroom.  Didn't get out till 6pm and found a huge bulge in my car tyre.  Drove slowly to the garage, paid ?98 for a tyre and tracking, called in at my mums with her shopping and crawled through the door, desparate for cocodamol.  As soon as I'd taken them I realised I had swallowed 2 more plaquenil by mistake.

I've hardly stopped all day so hadn't eaten since breakfast and now my stomach is starting to twist in knots and burn.  Is there anything I can take to stop it?  And is it ok that I've taken 4 x Plaquenil today?  To crown it all, I got into the shower and water was coursing down the wall behind the shower unit.  What a day!!  Really bothered with sharp stomach pains now - it's taking my mind off my back though... any advice anyone??  xx Ailsa

Ailsa,
If you have any yogurt, eat about 1/4 cup, then call the doctor or Poisin Control and find out if you need something to conteract the overdose of Plaq.

I hope you feel better soon.

I agree with Poochie, call poison control and also perhaps after poison control, call the prescribing doc. I hope it goes OK...take care!!

Hi AIlsa

NHS Direct 0845 46 47 have a direct line to the poisons unit. They would be good people to call. Sorry you are in such pain. Let us know how you get on.

Pooh, Missy, Kathy - thankyou for your prompt replies!  And thanks for the number Kathy.  I rang and they called back when they had checked - it isn't dangerous as apparently the dose for malaria is 3 tablets, but they said stomach discomfort and diahorrea may last a couple of days.

I woke this morninf with a bad head, but strangely, no sore back!  Usually when I pull my lower back I have a few bad days then it eases over the next week.  Perhaps Plaquenil has more uses than we realise?.... Anyway, thanks again, I panicked at first when I realised what I had done!

I'm relieved to hear you are feeling better. Let's hope the effects wear off soon.

Phew!  Glad to hear you're ok!

You need to take plaquinil with food and split the dose....take one in the morning, and one in the evening not both at the same time and it will be easier on your stomach.   Lesley

Thanks for the update!! I am glad you are doing better!

Lesley is right with taking the 2 doses separately.  And always with food of some kind.

I am so glad you are feeling okay.  I've taken duplicate meds once and I know how scarey it can be.  Take care and I hope your back doesn't get in the act. ;D
