Are there many of you out there that have both sjogrens and diabetes in your list of diagnoses?

Lynnmarie, interesting question.  I do not have diabetes, but my daughter came up with Type I diabetes at age 27 which was before I had any inkling of having Sjogrens.  Diabetes of this type, is autoimmune.  Type 2, which is the kind people most often get is regulatable with diet, exercise, weight loss etc.  Lucy

My wife has had type I diabetes since she was 8.  She is now 27.  We have a gorgeous daughter and a pretty normal life.  She is on a insulin pump and has pretty good control over her bg.  If I recall her last a1c was somewhere in the mid 6 range.

My mum has diabetes and my doctor says i am pre-diabetic.. which means I could end up diabetic if I not careful...

I am a type 1 diabetic and also have a couple of other autoimmune diseases.  My diabetes is in good control.  SJS has been more difficult to deal with than the diabetes.

Type 1 is definitely and autoimmune disease.

Lynn, I'm curious why you ask?  Sometimes I miss a lot of posts.  Do you have type 1 diabetes?

Terri,

I have type 2 Diabetes for a little over a year now....and I was doing ok for about a year on meds. The last few months I can NOT get my blood sugar under control and I'm following my diet MUCH better than the previous year...so far my Metformin has had to be doubled and I have added glucotrol twice a day as well. It still fluctuates so much during the day that its making me feel ill and having terrific headaches and its definitely higher than it should be...going to give the meds a few more days and then fax my blood sugars in to the doc again to see whats next.

I have had type 2 since 2007. I lost 25 pounds and was able to lower my A1c to a normal level. I still have spikes and need to watch what I eat and my exercise. I take 2 pills a day for it. What I have found most difficult is that during a flare, I cannot exercise as I need to...I can't even keep up with my housework during those times.  :(
