Well, just a quick message for anyone on here who has ever gotten the unfortunate dx of the herpes virus. I had to go to the ER the other day for severe leg edema, and noticed some spots on my right forearm. To fill you in a bit, I was dx with genital herpes about 8 years ago, had outbreaks for a year-ish, then NOTHING...no symptoms, no owies...nothing. Until the other day. I had at the same time, a horrible outbreak (like my first all over again), but this time they were on my arm as well. Yeah, the Dr. was not believing it, as they only happen in moist areas of the body. Anyway, if you have HERPES, you need to be VERY careful about immuno-suppressant medications for our disease. The fact that they were on my arm during a flare is bad news, means my immune system is very compromised. So, you may want to talk to you Doc about being on Valtrex or Acyclovir once daily to suppress that darn virus. It can be very dangerous if it invades your body like that.

So, don't know if this is useful to anyone, but very good advice if so. God bless! :)

Stress management may help you as it has helped me. After being exposed to chicken pox by some of the children I was teaching, my MIL had a stroke. The experience left me with a nasty looking scar over my right eye. I have to be careful not to have it erupt. If it does erupt, I have to keep it from my eyes.

Hi Barb,

I too have GH (for 17 years) and SJS.  When I first got it, I had a breakout every week for a few months, then every other week, then once a month ,etc., until I've gotten to about every 5 years or so.  I don't take any medication either.  You're lucky, my first outbreak was so painful I couldn't sleep or move much.  After the first one, they never hurt again.

I believe that with every out break the virus gets weaker and weaker, so after so many years, it becomes to weak to attack.  Or at least that's what I've read about it.  But if your immune system is down, it will attack.  I used to get outbreaks when I got the flu or a cold.

I hope you don't get another outbreak like you've had.  Best wishes!
