Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending 3 hours at my GP office, with most of that time spent in the waiting room.  My GP moved to a new location, so I didn't know what to expect.  When I got into the examining room a young women came in and introduced herself as the Doctors PA.  I thought great, now I have to explain everything to this dunce, sorry that's how I think now.

OK, now comes the time that I have to tell her about Sjogren's and get that 'deer caught in the headlights look", well, the first thing she asked me was, where is your bottle of water?  I was shocked and explained that since my bladder cancer I try not to drink before I leave the house, due to frequent bathroom breaks.  So where are your sugar free candies, you're losing your voice?
I couldn't believe it, she knew more about Sjogren's then most doctors.

When I told her what I was there for I had an EKG and breathing test in the next 15 minutes, I am truly gob smacked.  I only wish I wasn't have more health problems, but I think I have some of my confidence in the medical community back.

PA as actually better than many GP's - they usually have emegerency care expertise and real world experience - would be like a Nurse Jackie (New show with edie falco)

Hi Epson

Just a thought - do you think she is a fellow Sjoggie?

Eps..I have to protest one thing, I don't think artifucial sweeteners are very good for us, they cause an exacerbated immune response to digest them.

You know, that's a good point, never thought about it, but the next time I see her I will ask and also see how much she does know about Sjogren's.  I guess I was just caught off guard and was impressed how see took control and jumped into action, I would like too see more of that and she's easy on the eyes too, so that doesn't hurt.  She did tell me that it's not customary for patients to remove all their clothes for a blood pressure reading, I guess I'll know better next time.

MissyB,

It's not actually artificial sweeteners in the candy, it's sugar alcohol like you find in prunes, which isn't even a sugar, but if not eaten in moderation can cause explosive diarrhea :o  The doctor was also aware of that fact too.

Epson,

;D

Yipee! What a great day for you, thanks for sharing.

my rheum said that anything we ingest that is artificial and full of chemicals makes it harder on our systems, he told me to steer clear of processed foods and sweeteners. Stevia is fine though.. let's both get some candy w/ stevia  ;)

Hi Epson,

I'm so super jealous! ;)  Wow, a PA that knows SJS and is a take charge kind of lady!  Now if we could only find doctors like that! :D
