Just one more for you :)  Has anyone ever been weaned off of plaquenil and done okay without it??

Joe S.

I was never on it for any length of time. I tried one pill, went blind for 6 hours and refused to try any more. I have been using alternatives for my auto immune illnesses. I wish you luck getting off it. Work with your doctor to get off it.

I've been on it going on four years now, and the rheumy has recently mentioned that he wants to cut the dosage down a bit and seeing how I do.

Hi tmarie,

Ive been on Plaquenil for about 4 and a half years now (I think) with no problems and my rheumy hasn't mentioned cutting my dosage down.

If you do...just make sure you are doing it under the guidance of your Doctor and communicate with him/her during the process as to how you are doing!

Good luck!

I've been on plaquenil for about 2 1/2 yrs now. My dosage gets adjusted as my weight fluctuates (the dosage is determined by the patient's weight). I haven't experienced any problems with the adjustments. I don't have any experience with stooping this medication. I agree with the others-it's important that you do this with the guidance of your physician.
