varifocals!

Well, got my new glasses today in readiness for external exam marking which starts with an 8 hour training day on Saturday.  I'm really hoping I have done the right thing with these as I only had a reading prescription before.  This time I needed distance too, so got a tinted pair and reactalite pair 'free' (?450!!!!!)  I'm trying to get used to them but in the end had to take them off in school as I felt I couldn't hear properly!  I think I am concentrating so hard on looking out that I have no concentration left for listening too!!

Anyone else learned to get used to varifocal lenses?  The floor doesn't seem to be quite right at the moment and I'm feeling a bit disorientated.   I need to get used to them quickly as I have both school exam marking and external exams to mark - if I vanish for the next 7 weeks, you know where to find me!! - slumped over a huge pile of papers!!  XX Ailsa

I love my progressive bifocals.  When I first needed bifocals, I had the old flat top kind.  I hated having to look over OR under the line.

When getting these glasses you have to learn how to tilt your head to get the best use of the glasses.  When you sit at the computer, you'll adjust your head up and down a little to get the right "tilt."  You'll know because it's the best you can see.  The reading of your papers might take some adjusting, too.  Have to get the right tilt to get the best vision.  But, you don't have to be snapping your head back and forth like with regular bifocals.

If you're not having good results, go back to the eye doctor and have them checked for the right adjustment on your face.  This is also very important.  If they are not at the correct adjustment, you can't get the best vision.  I think you will love your glasses when you get used to them.  Take a break every so often in the beginning.  Lucy

 Really love mine.  Took me a couple of days to adjust but have been wearing them now for years.  Would not have it any other way.  Maybe yours need to be adjusted but mine are great.

It took me a few days to get used to varifocals when I first got them. To begin with a felt vaguely 'seasick'. Persevere! They are worth it in the end.
If you don't feel settled with them after a day or three - go back and tell the optician. Occasionally they make mistakes but its more likely just a case of adjusting to them.

I have been wearing them for a number of years and I took to them like a duck to water, you might need a day or to for your brain to train its self on what portion of the lens your eye need to look through.

My graduated lenses are trifocals.  It took some time to get used to using them but I love them.  For me it was just learning to lift my head or lower my head.  If you don't get used to them after a week or so, go back to where you got them from and speak to them.  Roxanne

I started wearing glasses for the first time last year.. that was a total shock.. and I jumped straight in with varifocals... took a few days to get used to them and now I dont think about them at all anymore... hope you get used to them quick!! Sure you will!

I was very lucky like Epson.  I started wearing them several years ago and took to them immediately.  My only complaint is that my neck aches on my PC because the monitor is too high on the desk but my laptop is fine because I look down through the reading bit.  You have to get used to looking down with your whole head and not just your eyes which is why you feel the floor is in the wrong place.

I love my varifocals too. I got my first pair when on holiday in Cyprus. The optician told me it might take a day or two to get used to them, but I walked out of the shop and never had a problem with them. Previously, I had separate pairs of glasses, and was forever losing the pair that I wasn't wearing.
