After 1.5 years of bad digestive issues, I was recently diagnosed by a rheumy (but with no positive antibodies or RF). It was almost magical when I started taking the Evoxac andPlaquenil - greatly reduced bloating, nausea, etc- finally!

I am still having eye symptoms, though- and I think allergy season is making me worse.

Anyway, for anyone taking Evoxac- does anyone suffer from great drooling while sleeping? I find during the day I feel comfortable, but while sleeping, I am a drool machine! Is that normal?

Hi wangel  :)

Welcome to Sjogren's world. I've never been given Evoxac or Salagen so I can't answer your question but someone will be along who can! I'm glad you're feeling better than you did but we rarely get to be symptom free.

Do you see an opthamologist? It's quite important to when you're taking Plaquenil. They may also give you some advice about eye care which may relieve things a bit.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Wangel143, I took Evoxac for a while but I'm on Saligen now. The Evoxac helped me produce more saliva (which may be a problem for you at night) but I couldn't take it more than once a day-it gave me really bad headaches. You may want to talk to your rheumy about a trial on Saligen. I use Refresh PM at night. It's an over the counter product. And I use refresh drops as needed throughout the day-they are over the counter medications too. These 2 products have been a godsend for me. There are several over the counter meds and prescription meds out there that are helpful. You should discuss this with your eye doctor. Mine gave me some samples to try. You should avoid antihistamines (like benadryl) as much as possible. They just dry us out more. I used zyrtec for bad seasonal allergy flare. It dried me out a little but not as bad as benadryl. You should discuss this with your rheumy before starting anything new. Hope this helps!

butterfly,

How much Salagen do you take at night? Do you get up and take more in the middle of the night? I tried Pilacarpine (generic salagen) and one pill at bedtime produced about 2 drops of saliva. I haven't given it much of a trial, cause it didn't seem to do much.

Drooling, sometimes my pillow is a slobbering mess, but who cares, I have saliva!  I wish I had that much slobber during the day.

The combination of plaquenil and Evoxac is awesome for me, I spent 4 days in the hospital without my Evoxac and I was miserable, I didn't know how much I would miss it until I didn't have it.

Hi Cali66. I take 5 mg of saligen twice daily-once in the morning and once about 15 minutes before I go to bed. It can be taken up to 4 times daily. Saligen comes in 2 strengths. 5mg is the lower dosage. My rheumy gave me two 30 day scripts so that I could try both. The larger dosage was just too much for me. It made my salivary glands hurt. My mouth is dry in the morning but it isn't unbearable like before. Without the saligen it's was like I have cotton mouth. The pain in my throat would wake me up at night. I kept water on my nightstand and would need a drink several times a night. That's no longer the case. It helps to drink enough water before bedtime as well. This of course makes you get up to pee in the middle of the night but at least my throat isn't killing me. Hope you find some help soon!

Calli66

Thanks, Butterfly--

I've got the 5 mg strength. Maybe I'll try it again; I don't think I really gave it a chance before. I guess I was expecting tons of saliva. I never tried it during the day---only at bedtime. So being in the half-asleep state, I guess it was pretty hard to evaluate what was going on. My nighttime routine is get up, bathroom, back to bed, lie there, eyes, eyedrops, insomnia, tongue like a piece of leather, more insomnia, and throw in a bunch of wild and weird dreams interspersed throughout. Yay, fun!

Hi Calli66,

Let me also welcome you to the SJS World!  Please do look around, as there are tons of topics and oodles of information.

I can't speak of Saligen or Evoxac as I still have moistere in my mouth (my eyes are a wreak), but the others have given you some good information.

Please do see an opthamologist to watch the health of your eyes.

Take care -

Patze
