I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen. When I wake up in the morning, sometimes my right hand feels weak. If I try to write something, my fingers can't hold the pen properly. It always goes away after a while.

I don't know if this is a weird quirky thing about me or if it could be related to Sjogrens.

Hi Sparkle  :)

It could be related to Sjogren's but it could relate to other things too, so I think it would be a good idea to run it past your doctor. There can be CNS involvement with SjS but it is rare, so please get your doc to check your hand out and refer you to a neurologist if necessary.

Take care - Scottie  :)

All this week I have had a pain in my left upper arm - it hurts to touch but also hurts if you just sit quiet:( It is a strange boring pain and I cant lift or bring the arm back. Taking off a jumper was almost impossible (had to get hubby to help) and driving is not easy - as I dont have power steering:( I also feel like there is a lump under my arm - but I cant feel anything with my other hand - just feels wrong when my arm is down???? slight numbness too -
I cant be bothered to go to Dr's am not yet ready for the `oh what is it this time look:(

Scottie - thanks for the info. I will ask my rheumy since I am scheduled to see him next week.

Issey - sorry your upper arm hurts so much and that your doctor isn't too compassionate.  :(  Maybe you should let him/her know anyway? It sounds like something that should get checked out.

Sparkle, this could be something as simple as carpal tunnel!  i've had one wrist fixed, but the other isn't and is driving me nuts.  I hate to have any more surgery, though.  I have to say the carpal tunnel surgery went well.  Lucy

hi sparkle

i get this also, since being diagnosed i have numbness and pins and needles in both arms and fingers. I sometimes wake up with it and it comes and goes with activities throughout the day.  My upper body also feels weaker and aches quite alot sometimes depending on how tired  i am.  My rheumie says it is carpal tunnel and left it at that.  he said there is surgery but i dont feel i want that at the moment.  It has also been suggested i may have fibromyalgia by other users on here and other sjogrens sufferers as get alot of migrating body pain (shooting, stabbing etc).

hope you get some answers

i dont know how related it is, but what i do know is 3 years ago that statrted with me, always happened at work on nights, couldnt quick get the pen to write was weak and pins and needles , would last 5 minutes, id be shaking my arm etc, then it would go away as quick as it came, then i had it alot last 6 months, was put down to fibro symptoms, which it can cause, and yup carpal tunnel can do that too, has resolved lately, but just to say yup i know that symptom, strange on that it is

Hi Sparkle,

By chance has a neuro ever had you do nerve conduction tests?  I too have carpel tunnel and my hands are often tingling/numb.

Please let us know what your doctor says.

Sparkle, I had this problem last spring and summer.  I started sleeping with a brace on my wrist/hand and soon needed to sleep with braces on both hands.  Doc never did diagnose what was happening.  I would visit when my hand was acting up and she could see what the problem was but could not find a reason. At first my symptoms were similar yours.  I went through symptoms that got progressively worse.  I had some numbness in my left pinkie, my wrist would hurt, my hand would hurt and I could not make a fist.  The wrist braces helped to the point where my hands were almost normal when I woke up.  I found that I had to alter somethings during my waking hours.  I read frequently at night and would hold the book up to eye level.  I started resting the book on a blanket on my lap and this helped.  Also, I had to be careful about putting pressure on my elbows when I was sitting or lying down.  By the end of the summer I was sleeping without the braces most nights and eventually did not need them at all.  I am hoping that this was also not heat related.  Don't know if what is happening to you is what I experienced.  Let us know what you find after you see the Doc. Yeah,

Because it gets better as the day goes on, I think your body fluids are collecting around and in the carpal tunnel causing some impingement and resulting weakness which improves after you are moving about and the slight swelling goes down.

You know what I mean?  It's that sleep swelling everyone gets that makes your eyes look funny first thing in the morning?

The swelling might just be enough to slightly squeeze the nerves, especially if you've lately developed a little inflammation in there.
