Medicare Part D and the 100 meds I'm on

Well, I should have seen it coming, but...

My husband lost his job.  200 people were permanently laid off today after months of temporary lay offs.  I've already got the paper work going for picking up Medicare part B, but am a total loss as to what to do with Medicare Part D.

My son actually trained to sell insurance and knows a lot about the different types of policies, but I have a couple of questions maybe someone here can help with-

If your on SSD (not SSI) can you get a MediGap or other type program where you join an HMO instead of having Medicare Part B? Or is that only for seniors?  Have any of you found a good Medicare Part D company that covers you meds for Sjogren's?  I started trying to compare plans today, but when I started putting in my medication list, it completely ignored about 2/3rds of my meds no matter how many times I tried to add them to the list.

I've already talked to my family doctor and she started filling me up with samples today of everything she had on my list.  She also wrote refills for right now that will give me the largest number of pills I can get before our insurance ends March  31.

I'm trying very hard to concentrate on what I need to do to get through this rather than panicking at the fact that it's happened (yeah, right).

I just started my SSD, Approved for medicare coverage on 2-1-09..I opted for the medigap coverage with Blue Cross, and the Blue Cross also for
my prescriptions..The easiet thing for me was to go on www.medicare.gov, prescription drug plans for 2009, they have a formula that will  let you put in your medications, and then will
calculate what each insurance co will charge you.(example Humana, AARP, Blue Cross,)..I think this is was you were inquiring about. Blue Cross seemed to be the best for me. I have
a $50.00 co-pay though..The website should really help you alot, you can also contact their customer service and explain your situation. They were very helpful with me..
