Sinus problems

      Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy Holidays. It is Christmas eve. I have sjogrens and about  11 days ago I started out with a sinus infection I thought. I went to the Dr. and he put me on Cefdinir 300 mg generic for omnicef. and Musix. Well The infection cold ect just got worse I even took a whole bottle of musix (2 at a time) No better. Called Dr. back and he said I had to come in because I was on pretty heavy antib. Well I went in and he changed the anti to smz/tmp ds 800-160  and a deco. that was no longer made. I am still haveing all the problems but they are worse again. Now my ears are so clogged I can't hear. I tell you its not too much fun to go around all day esp. on Christmas not being able to see very much and not being able to hear very much. and having to blow your nose all the time. I am sub to be dry where is all the musus coming from!!!!!!!
if any one has any ideas on what I should take for over the counter please let me know. even the pharamist couldn't help.

Hi Theresa 

The only thing I can suggest is a menthol crystal in very hot water. Put a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Not particularly comfortable but it sometimes clears the tubes. Also lay off dairy as much as you can. Dairy contributes to mucous. Oh - eucalyptus oil on the pillow is another possibility.

Wish I could be of more help. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

I'm sorry that you're so ill, Scottie gave you some great suggestions, and I also use Vick's under the nose helps a bit too.

Merry Christmas Theresa.  Sorry you are having the sinus problems. Did you know that your sinus caveties exstend to the base of skull? Take some hot moist compresses and put them on the back of the neck.  Do that several times a day.  Or take a hot steamy shower and let the spray hit the back of the neck.   Also get some ear muffs and put them on the ears, indoors and out doors and while you are sleepng.  Keeping the ears warm will help them drain.  Give it a try you will be pleasantly surprised on how well it works.

I hope you are feeling a bit better and that some of the suggestions were helpful to you! I always use Mucinex over the counter and that seems to help me, but it does take some time to work.

Have you tried using a netti pot to help clean your sinus' out? It does seem to help some people out if used on a regular basis.


Hope you are getting some relief!

    Thanks for all the comments. The drainage is all most gone thank goodness, but my ears are still clogged.and hurt, mainly the left one I have another Dr apt today at 6:30 to have my ear checked out. I use a nettie pot all the time. It is wonderful. I went Thur a whole bottle of musix. I used everything.
