Here we are two weeks to Christmas and today here in south Louisiana we received anywhere from 4" -  8"  of snow.  Amazing!!!!!!  It was beautiful and looked great with all the houses decorated for the holiday.  Now I know to most of you that live even just a little north of where I am, you are wondering what's the big deal.  It has been three years since we have had any snow fall and twenty years since we have had this much accumulate in one event.   In fact today  broke weather records all across the southern part of our state.  The last time we had this much snow was in Feb. of 1988.  I don't think I would want to have this all winter long, but for one day it was a blast. Despite the aches and pains and lagging cold, my hubby and I got out there and enjoyed it like kids.  It was a great day!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the rare snowfall!!  living in Michigan, well---it's not rare at all here.  We're starting the winter of 08-09 with a bang and have had way more snow than normal for December.  We just put on another pair of longjohns.  lol.

Salsen,

We don't get much snow where I live either, but every once in a while we get the up slope winds, and get quite a bit of snow. But it is usually gone in a few days. I agree, snow is pretty for a short period, but I could not handle it all winter.

I am going to play Oscar the grouch for a minute. I thought this was supposed to be a polite forum...no 4 letter words. Now I know that sometimes you have to use a 4 letter word or three to get the meaning across but please no more Sn@w, C@ld, W!nd, D@mp, or R@!n. With the onset of lupus I have a few three letter words that can also be painful...H@T, and SUN. Maybe we should lobby congress to stop complaining about the weather and change it. All we have to do is change the tilt of the earth and do some weather modification. The poof no more discussion about global warming and a mini ice age!

Well, Joe I can tell at once that you don't live in the UK.  Here we talk about the weather all the time.  I've never known why we preface every conversation with a little chat about the rain/damp/cold/rain - rarely sunshine!  It could be because we're nervous about straying into personal territory and possibly offending someone.  Or because we're just so uptight that we don't like to deal with any emotions.  Having said that, weather can be pretty emotional too!

Love the idea of tilting the world on its axis!  How about we get all the Sjoggies together.  I can't offer to jump and I'm sure most of us are past our jumping days.  We could all lean or maybe lurch in one direction!

Hope you're having as happy a day as possible.

Sal,
I happy for you.  If it's alright with you, you can keep it.  We had our first real taste of winter last week with freezing rain.  Our daughter who works in York and usually gets home in about 20 minutes left work at 5 and didn't get home until almost 8.  There were 27 fender benders in a 15 mile stretch of the interstate.  So NO THANKS, you keep it. ;D

I love the kind of Sn** that lays on the grass and trees and then an hour later you look out the window and it's gone.

We use to be big winter fanatics, skating, snowmobiling, skiing, but as we age, we got more sense. :D

Enjoy it while you can, but PLEASE don't send it up to the Northeast.  Our weatherman says we are in for it tonight so I'm on my way to the lab and then the grocery store for a few things.

Take care,

Hugs, Pooh

We are about to be hit by a winter storm here in the Seattle area. From the sound of the weather forecasters, you would think we were at the Antarctic. The big problem here is that no one is used to driving in really cold weather on icy roads, and the city is pretty hilly to boot. We are way more used to flooding.

But my garden is all mulched for the winter. I'll probably lose the scented geraniums (still blooming) and the two huge pineapple sage plants (four feet tall and wide, lime green leaves, bright red flower stalks all over), but there are plenty of seed heads out there for the birds.

Genko  I did see you weather forecast and it does look rough.  Our one day wonder is now melted and gone.  Everyone is sharing pictures of the snow event.  It will probably be another 20 years before it happens again.  Hope all goes well for you.   Keep warm!
