Hi,

I have been so blessed with the warm helpful welcome I have received, thank you!!

I have a question. In the last 2 weeks I have noticed that drinking water helps with the pain and the extreme pain in my eyes that travels over my head and down to the back of my head. My problem is I don't know how I can keep up with this kind of water drinking. I am drinking 8 -32 oz containers of water a day...at least!! I cannot go longer then 10 minutes without drinking water. If I go longer my mouth dries out and the weakness gets unbearable all the symp. just kick in and can knock me out and put me on the couch for the whole day!! My eyes...man, I walk around in sunglasses always or the pain is horrible!

I do not really urinate much more then I usually do either. I can't tell I need to go until I REALLY need to go!

Do any of you have to do this? I am not dx with ss yet. I see my rheum on sept. 24th I think...I have it written down, :) I have fibro, rhm arthritis, scoliosis, slipped disk in neck......

Also, I am having trouble getting a good deep breath. my feet feel like they are falling asleep and when that happens they swell up. Does any of this happen to any of you?

I am dizzy all of the time and burping, man its driving me crazy!! A pressure on my chest has been there on and off for a week or so. Could be from my scoliosis or from the burping.

Thanks for any advice and thoughts!

Hi Lifeart  :)

I understand the need to drink water but as I suspect you know - you can drink too much of it. Some of your symptoms could even stem from the amount that you're drinking. You could be 'flushing' away salts and trace elements that you need.

I find that taking a mouthful of water and holding it in my mouth for a while can be helpful. Keeps my mouth moist without drinking too much of it.  I'm sure I read somewhere that one can actually get water poisoning, although we can drink a fair amount before that happens!

I'm not medical though and I'm not a doctor so anything I say is just a personal opinion. Pressure in the chest and swollen feet need to be investigated sooner rather than later.

I would make a not of ALL your symptoms to take with you to the rheumatologist and make sure you don't leave anything out. Thankfully the 24th isn't too far away. If breathing is really difficult and if you have chest pain - go to ER. Better safe than sorry!

Take care - Scottie  :)

Thanks Scottie for the reply. I know your right about the danger of over drinking water. I most likely am drinking way mare then needed. Not sure. I am just so afraid of the eye pain coming back. I went to the er here once, and unless I am unable to not move I will not go again. As soon as they here fibromyalgia, pain meds....thats the end of treatment or investigation. I went for the chest pain, they did an ekg and sent me home. The doctor came in once and 3 hours later a nurse came in and said O.K. you can leave. I never saw the doctor again. This exp. sure didn't make me want to go to any doctor again. thats why I have gone so long between doctor visits.

I am taking in less water and will see if I can find a happy balance. i will try the holding the water in my mouth to keep it from drying out too much. Its a good idea. :)

Thanks!

Hello
I have a problem with my eyes too and sometimes they hurt like crazy. Well I  use eye drops but also have this cool thing that I put over my eyes for a while and it helps so much, And I use the wrap around sun glasses when I drive. I found the wrap around eye glasses on Line but you can get them at Walmart also. I wear glasses so they fit over my glasses the sun is hard on the eyes. and the wind also hurts. I keep eye drops in my pocket at all times. I know its a pain but we want to feel better so we go on
Good luck write me back

Lifeart,
I'm no doctor, but I do have heart problems and with your chest discomfort and your feet swelling, please go get checked out.  It could just be reflux and indigestion, but it should be checked out now.

The burping could also be sign that it could be reflux or indigestion, but I would still get checked out.

As far as the drinking of water goes, it is always best to just sip and not gulp.  Sipping will keep what little moisture you have left in place.  While as Scottie said, drinking a lot just flushes it out along with vital nutrients.  I keep sugar free lemon hard candies in my pocket to suck on during the day instead of drinking a lot of water.

Take care and let us know about that chest pain.

When you drink too much water, you become "water toxic."  I just wanted to put that little remark in there.  I can't tell you what it means, but it's not good.  I think that your electrolights can be way off.  Best see the doc about this, and as Pooh said, sip the water.  ;D  Lucy

When i am at work i get so hot and sweaty and dry that i drink 2litres or more in an 8 hour shift. What i do now is have a bottle of powerade. You guys in the US know it as gatorade. I take sipsof gatorade in between sips of water to replace the electrolytes i am losing through perspiration and drinking so much water. It helps keep you hydrated.
I would also get the feet swelling and chest heaviness checked out as well. It could be you are fluid overloaded.
